Ruto addresses the nation on Kenya’s future

President William Ruto has addressed the nation from State House, Nairobi, outlining his vision for Kenya’s future and calling for a renewed approach to the country’s development.

In his address on Thursday, July 30, 2026, the President described the moment as a turning point for the country, urging Kenyans to embrace a bold national vision that will accelerate economic growth and improve the lives of future generations.

Rethinking Kenya’s development

Ruto challenged Kenyans to reflect on why other nations have achieved much of their potential while Kenya has repeatedly fallen short of its aspirations.

“The question we must ask ourselves candidly and honestly is why other nations have fulfilled so much of their potential while we have repeatedly fallen short. More importantly, what must we now do differently to ensure that the next chapter of Kenya’s development story is fundamentally different from the last,” he said.

Despite the challenges, the President expressed optimism about the country’s future, saying Kenya has the ability to chart a new path through collective effort and determination.

“There is, however, some good news. We can, we must, and we shall, together, get it right this time round,” Ruto stated.

A defining moment

The President said history does not always announce defining moments, but argued that Kenya is approaching a unique opportunity that could reshape its future for generations to come.

“History rarely announces the arrival of defining moments. Yet there are occasions when the forces shaping the world create opportunities that come perhaps once in a generation. I believe we are on the threshold of one such historic moment.”

Ruto said his belief was anchored on four compelling reasons, which he promised to outline as the foundation of his administration’s long-term strategy for transforming Kenya into a globally competitive and prosperous economy.
