Oburu’s son praises his father’s wisdom & strength after Odinga family meeting
Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Oburu Odinga’s son, Jaoko Oburu, has praised his father’s strength and wisdom after yesterday’s meeting attended by members of the larger Odinga family.
Jaoko noted that it was a peaceful Sunday which saw family members convene at the invitation of the Siaya Senator amid reports of division in the family barely months after the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
“It was a peaceful Sunday surrounded by family, hosted by my father, Dr Oburu Odinga. Truly thankful for his endless love, wise guidance, and the strength that keeps our family so united,” Jaoko wrote on X on Monday, February 2, 2026.

Members of the family appreciated the Siaya Senator for his guidance, revealing his role in keeping the family united.
Ruth Odinga praises Oburu
Oburu, who is the head of the Odinga family, hosted the meeting on Sunday, February 1, 2026, with his sister Ruth Odinga also appreciating his wisdom, love and guidance.
“I spent a peaceful Sunday with family, hosted by my brother, Dr Oburu Odinga. Grateful for his love, guidance, and the steady hand that has always kept us united,” Ruth stated on Facebook after the meeting.
The meeting came in the backdrop of reports of sharp divisions in the family over the direction of ODM.
Two factions emerged in the days following Raila’s death, with one faction led by Oburu leaning towards the party backing President William Ruto in the 2027 elections.
Winnie Odinga and her brother Raila Junior have questioned the speed with which the party is moving to back Ruto, calling for broader consultations.

Winnie and Raila addressed a rally in Kibera, where they questioned the direction that the current leadership is taking the party, with Oburu leading a political blitz across the country to sell the idea of getting into a partnership with Ruto to ODM delegates.
It is against this backdrop that Oburu, in his capacity as the head of the Odinga family, convened a meeting.
Winnie’s truth on relationship with Oburu
Despite the sharp differences in opinion, Winnie maintains that the family is united and dismissed media reports of a division in the family.
“There is no family feud. If there was a family feud, I doubt he would tell me that in public. He is a funny guy. Mambo ya nyumbani tunaongea kinyumbani, but mambo ya chama is not to be discussed at home.
“I love Dr Oburu, he is my only dad. I don’t know why this has become national news. Our family is tight. We have no problems at all,” Winnie said during a recent interview with a local TV station.
