In a last-minute show of support for Kenya’s most talked-about amateur boxing showdown, ODM Party leader Oburu Odinga has thrown both his weight and his wallet behind the highly anticipated clash between Mbavu Destroyer and Majembe.

In an X post on the night of Friday, April 3, 2026, featuring the event organiser Oga Obinna, Oburu was seen handing over money and declaring, “Mimi kama Genz Youth Leader, Nimeweka Mawe! Kwani ni kesho?”

Oburu’s contribution adds to an already impressive list of high-profile donors. President William Ruto fulfilled a Ksh 4 million pledge, with Ksh 1 million allocated to each boxer for training and Ksh2 million for 2,000 fan tickets.

Other notable supporters include Kasarani MP Ronald Karauri, who donated Ksh 2 million, alongside contributions from Pastor Dorcas Rigathi, purchasing 400 tickets worth Ksh400,000, ensuring fans from different backgrounds could attend.

The hype surrounding the fight has been massive. From viral weigh-in drama to emotional prayers from the fighters’ families, the event has united Kenyans across social and cultural divides.

A Kenyan woman even pledged Ksh 1.2 million plus a dream date to the winner.
