KeNHA announces partial closure of Mombasa Road–Eastern bypass ramp

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced the temporary partial closure of a section of the Mombasa Road (A8) and Eastern Bypass Junction Ramp on the Mombasa-bound lanes.

The closure will take effect from Tuesday, June 30, 2026, and remain in place until Tuesday, July 7, 2026. KeNHA said the measure is necessary to facilitate construction works on the affected section.

“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) notifies the public that a section of Mombasa Road (AB)/ Eastern Bypass Junction Ramp (Mombasa Bound Lanes) will be temporarily closed partially from Tuesday, June 30, 2026, to Tuesday, July 7, 2026,” KeNHA said on Tuesday, June 23, 2026.

The authority explained that the closure is required to allow the construction of a box culvert. According to the notice, the works will be carried out within the affected road section during the period of the traffic disruption. Motorists using the route are expected to follow the temporary traffic arrangements that have been put in place.

“This closure is to allow for construction of a box culvert on the road section,” KeNHA said.

Drivers travelling on the Mombasa-bound lanes and intending to join the Eastern Bypass have been advised to use an alternative route. KeNHA explained that affected motorists will be required to continue past the closed ramp before accessing a diversion that reconnects with the bypass route.

Alternative route for motorists

“Motorists driving on the Mombasa-bound lanes and intend to join the Eastern Bypass using the ramp after the overpass bridge are advised to drive right past the closed ramp and turn left onto a diversion and reconnect with the ramp further ahead to join the Bypass,” KeNHA said.

The authority said the temporary arrangement is intended to ensure traffic continues flowing while construction activities are ongoing. Motorists have been urged to remain alert while approaching the affected area. KeNHA noted that traffic management measures will be implemented throughout the project period.

Officials also called on road users to cooperate with officers who will be deployed at the site. The authority explained that following directions issued on the ground will help reduce disruptions and improve safety for all motorists using the road.

“Motorists are further advised to approach the affected section with caution, follow the proposed traffic management plan as well as cooperate with the police and traffic marshals on site,” KeNHA said.
