Nairobi weather: Kenya Met warns of light rain as cloudy conditions persist

Nairobi residents should expect mainly cloudy conditions, with sunny intervals and a chance of light rainfall towards the end of the week, according to the Kenya Meteorological Department (Kenya Met).
In its weather forecast for September 1 to 7, 2026, the weatherman said the county would experience mainly cloudy conditions that are likely to break into sunny intervals during the forecast period.
Kenya Met also forecast a possibility of light rainfall towards the end of the period, giving Nairobi residents a reason to remain prepared for changing weather conditions.
“The county is likely to experience mainly cloudy conditions in the breaking into sunny intervals with a chance of light rainfall towards the end of the forecast period,” Kenya Met stated.
Temperatures to remain moderate
Daytime temperatures across Nairobi are expected to range between 24°C and 28°C, while night-time temperatures are likely to fall between 12°C and 15°C.
The forecast points to relatively warm afternoons and cooler mornings and nights, with residents likely to experience changing conditions throughout the day.
“Daytime highs are expected to be between 24°C and 28°C, while nighttime lows are likely to range from 12°C to 15°C,” Weatherman said.
Kenya Met’s national weather outlook
The Nairobi weather forecast comes amid a generally dry outlook for most parts of Kenya between September 1 and 7, 2026, according to the Kenya Meteorological Department.
However, the weatherman said a few areas could receive light rainfall during the period. These include parts of Nairobi, Kiambu, Nyandarua, Meru, Nyeri, Murang’a, Laikipia, Nakuru and Kilifi counties.
Kenya Met also forecast cool and cloudy conditions in parts of the Central Highlands, Nairobi and the South Rift, particularly during the first half of the week.
Additionally, the weatherman noted that temperatures would vary significantly across the country, with some areas experiencing relatively warm days while others record notably cold nights.
The outlook followed a largely dry period recorded between August 24 and August 30, although some areas experienced isolated rainfall. During that period, Mandera recorded the highest daily maximum temperature at 38.6°C, while Nyahururu recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 3.7°C.
The weatherman’s outlook highlights the varying weather conditions expected across the country as Kenya transitions into September.
