List of Nairobi roads to be partially closed from Thursday 11

The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has announced the partial closure of several roads within Nairobi to allow for ongoing infrastructure works aimed at improving urban mobility.
In a public notice issued on Monday, June 8, 2026, the authority said it seeks cooperation from road users as it undertakes major construction projects and urged motorists to adhere to traffic directions and use alternative routes.
βThe Authority seeks to partially close several roads within Nairobi. We kindly ask for your cooperation as we strive to Transform Urban Mobility,β KURA stated.
Affected roads
- Kenyatta Avenue/Valley Road/Jakaya Kikwete Road
A section of Kenyatta Avenue, Valley Road, and Jakaya Kikwete Road will be partially closed for eight months from Friday, June 12, 2026, to Friday, February 12, 2027, both days inclusive.
According to KURA, the closure is necessary to allow contractors to undertake bridge construction works while ensuring the safety of road users and minimising traffic disruptions.
Motorists have been advised to use alternative routes indicated in the traffic diversion sketches and to follow guidance from traffic police and marshals stationed along the affected sections.

“We wish to notify the general public that a section of Kenyatta Avenue/Valley Road/Jakaya Kikwete Road will be partially closed as from Friday, 12th June 2026, till Friday, 12th February 2027 (eight months), both days inclusive,” KURA announced.
“This is to allow the contractor to undertake bridge construction works while ensuring the safety of road users and enhance minimal traffic disruptions. We urge motorists to use alternative routes as shown in the sketch and to follow the guidance of traffic police and marshals.”
- Haile Selassie Avenue
A section of Haile Selassie Avenue will also be partially closed for four months from Friday, June 12, 2026, to Monday, October 12, 2026.
The Authority said the works will also involve bridge construction aimed at improving road capacity and long-term traffic flow within the city.

- Ngong Road
In a separate notice, a section of Ngong Road between Windy Ridge and Westwood Park Road will be partially closed for one week from Thursday, June 11, 2026, to Thursday, June 18, 2026.
KURA said the closure will allow contractors to install twin cross culverts along the busy stretch.

Motorists have been urged to strictly follow diversion routes provided and comply with instructions from traffic officers.
The Authority apologised for any inconvenience caused, noting that the works are part of efforts to transform urban transport systems and improve road infrastructure across Nairobi.
