Kenya Power lists areas to be affected by blackout on Tuesday, May 12

Kenya Power has announced a series of planned power interruptions across eight counties on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, as it carries out routine maintenance and system upgrades.

In a statement issued on Monday, May 11, 2026, on X, the power company stated that the scheduled outages will affect parts of Nairobi, Mount Kenya, Coast, Western, and North Rift regions, with different areas set to experience blackouts between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm, depending on location.

The utility firm says the exercise is part of ongoing efforts to improve service reliability and strengthen the national grid.

“Good Evening. The listed area will be affected by planned power interruptions tomorrow (12th May 2026). The interruption is part of network maintenance.”Kenya Power stated.

Nairobi impact zones

In the Nairobi Region, several estates and institutions along Airport North Road will be affected from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. These include Nyayo Estate Phase 1, Embakasi Jua Kali, Baraka Estate, Simba Estate, Donholm Phase 8, and parts of Soweto.

Other areas set for interruption from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm include Kasarani, Garden City, Seasons, Clay City, Kilimani, and sections of Othaya Road, Makueni Road, and surrounding neighbourhoods.

Kenya Power also listed the Sultan area in Makueni County, which will experience outages from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.

Coast and western areas

In the Coast Region, parts of Kilifi County, including Kibokoni and surrounding areas such as Ocean Ports and King Fisher, will be affected from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

In Kwale County, Kwale Town, County Offices, Kwale Referral Hospital, Golini, and nearby areas will also experience outages from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

In Western Kenya, parts of Siaya County, including Akala Market, Kaudha, Wangbith, Rachare, and surrounding schools and dispensaries, will be without electricity from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Mt. Kenya and North Rift region

In Kirinyaga County, Githure Market and nearby villages such as Kiangoi, Kabiroini, and Ngariama will be affected from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

In Nyeri County, areas including Munyu, Warazo Jet, Kimahuri, Mapema Market, and Mountain Lodge surroundings will also experience interruptions from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

In Uasin Gishu County, areas such as Imbinga, Ivugwi, Likuyani, Everglade, Lugulu, Soysambu, and Kongoni will experience power cuts from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
