Kenya Power issues blackout notice for parts of Kisumu and Nyeri on Monday, August 17

Residents in selected parts of Kisumu and Nyeri counties will experience electricity blackouts on August 17, 2026, following planned maintenance by Kenya Power.
The power distribution company announced the scheduled outages through its official social media handle on Sunday evening, advising affected electricity consumers to prepare for the temporary downtime.
According to the maintenance schedule released by the utility firm, technical teams will use the outage window to carry out routine grid maintenance, repair faulty infrastructure, and undertake system upgrades across the Western and Mt. Kenya regions.
Kisumu County power disruption
In the Western region, the maintenance work will cause an electricity shutdown in parts of Kisumu County, specifically focusing on the Kapsorok area. Kenya Power indicated that power supply in this section will be turned off from 9.00 a.m. until 4.00 p.m.
The seven-hour interruption will affect customers situated around Kapsorok Market, Uzima Chiken, and Kisengeny Secondary School.
Local businesses, health facilities, learning institutions, and neighbouring residential premises located adjacent to these facilities will also operate without electricity during the maintenance hours.
Nyeri County power disruption
Meanwhile, in the Mt. Kenya region, sections of Nyeri County are slated for an eight-hour supply disruption. Electricity will be turned off in the Sugar Baker and Riamukurwe areas between 9.00 a.m. and 5.00 p.m.
The outage in Nyeri will impact several major commercial establishments, administrative hubs, and community centres.
Establishments around Sugarbaker, Outspan, and Serenity Center have been listed among the affected locations. Additionally, the Senior Wambugu Chief’s office, sections of Riamukurwe, and neighbouring customers will experience power loss throughout the day.
Kenya Power routinely carries out planned maintenance to replace aging electrical cables, repair local transformers, and clear overgrown trees along main power lines to guarantee overall network stability.
Consumers residing in the affected areas are advised to disconnect sensitive electrical appliances during the interruption period to protect them from potential voltage surges when service is restored in the evening.
