Kenya Met forecasts continued rainfall in several parts of Kenya

The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued a weather outlook covering Tuesday, the 19th, to Monday, May 25, 2026, indicating continued rainfall across several parts of the country.

According to the latest advisory released on Monday, May 18, 2026, rainfall is expected to persist in the Highlands east and west of the Rift Valley; the Lake Victoria Basin; the South Rift Valley; the Coast; and parts of the Southeastern Lowlands and Northeastern Kenya.

In the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley, residents are expected to experience sunny intervals in the mornings, though rains may occur in a few places. Afternoon showers and thunderstorms are likely in some areas, occasionally spreading to several regions. Nights are expected to be partly cloudy, with isolated showers in some locations.

“Rainfall is expected to continue in the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the South Rift Valley, the Coast and some parts of the Southeastern Lowlands and Northeastern Kenya,” the Kenya Met stated.

“The Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin and the Rift Valley: Sunny intervals are expected in the mornings, though rain may occur over a few places. Afternoon showers and thunderstorms are expected over few places, occasionally spreading to several places. Nights are likely to be partly cloudy, but showers may occur over a few places.”

For northwestern Kenya, the forecast indicates sunny intervals during the day and partly cloudy conditions at night, with occasional morning rains in a few areas.

In the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, mornings are expected to be cloudy with sunny breaks, followed by afternoon showers in some places. Nights will generally be partly cloudy, with possible isolated showers.

“North-western Kenya: Sunny intervals are expected during the day, with partly cloudy conditions at night. However, morning rains may occur over a few places,” Kenya Met added.

“The Highlands East of the Rift Valley: Mornings are likely to be cloudy, breaking into sunny intervals. Afternoon showers are expected over a few places. Nights are likely to be partly cloudy, but showers may occur over a few places.”

Meanwhile, northeastern Kenya is expected to experience sunny intervals during the day and partly cloudy nights, although some areas may receive morning rains.

The southeastern lowlands will also see sunny intervals during the day and partly cloudy nights, with occasional afternoon showers in selected areas. Along the coast, sunny intervals are expected during the day with partly cloudy nights. However, morning and night showers may occur in some places.

“North-eastern Kenya: Sunny intervals are expected during the day, with partly cloudy conditions at night. However, morning rains may occur over a few places. The South-eastern lowlands: Sunny intervals are expected during the day, with partly cloudy conditions at night,” Kenya Met added.

“However, afternoon showers may occur over few places. The Coast: Sunny intervals are expected during the day, with partly cloudy conditions at night. However, morning and night showers may occur over few places.”

Temperature

The weatherman also stated in the forecast that daytime temperatures are expected to rise above 30°C in some coastal areas, the Southeastern Lowlands, and Northeastern and Northwestern Kenya.

At the same time, night-time temperatures may drop below 10°C in some parts of the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, the Central Rift Valley, and areas near Mt Kilimanjaro.

“Daytime (maximum) average temperatures of more than 30°C are expected in some parts of the Coast, the Southeastern Lowlands, Northeastern and Northwestern Kenya,” Kenya Met stated.

“Night-time (minimum) average temperatures are expected to be less than 10°C in a few areas in the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, the Central Rift Valley and in the vicinity of Mt. Kilimanjaro.”
