Jake Lihakasi Jirongo, the son of the late politician and tycoon Cyrus Jirongo, left mourners in awe after delivering a powerful and eloquent tribute during his father’s burial ceremony held in Lumakanda, Lugari Constituency, Kakamega County.

Tall, dark, and handsome, Jake stood before thousands of mourners and spoke with a calm, deep baritone voice that instantly commanded attention on Tuesday, December 30, 2025.

His mastery of language, confidence, and emotional control turned the burial into a moment of reflection, admiration, and quiet pride.

“My name is Jake Lihakasi Jirongo. I am Z’s son, and I am here to read the eulogy,” Jake introduced himself.

He told mourners that the gathering was not only about loss but also about honouring a life that had been lived boldly.

“Today, we gather not merely to mourn the passing of a man, but to celebrate a life that was lived boldly, fully, and without apology,” he said.

A son’s powerful tribute

In his tribute, Jake described his father as more than a politician or businessman, calling him “a son of Kenya, a father, a brother, a builder, a kingmaker, and a force of nature.”

He traced Cyrus Jirongo’s journey from his humble beginnings in Virbe Village, Hamisi, to becoming a national figure whose ambition was never hidden.

“From a young age, it was clear he was not meant for small things. His ambition was bold, visible, and determined,” Jake said.

He highlighted his father’s entry into business immediately after high school, noting that entrepreneurship was not a choice but a calling.

“Where others feared risk, he saw opportunity,” he said.

Jake also spoke about his father’s belief in education and lifelong learning, saying knowledge was something his father believed could never be taken away.

Beyond public life, he described Cyrus Jirongo as a present and devoted father.

“To us, he was not a politician or a tycoon. He was simply Dad,” Jake said.

How Jirongo met his death

Cyrus Jirongo died on December 13, 2025, following a tragic road accident along the Nakuru–Nairobi Highway at Karai.

Police said Jirongo was driving towards Nairobi in his Mercedes-Benz saloon car when it collided head-on with a bus travelling in the opposite direction. He sustained severe head injuries and died on the spot.

His body was later moved to the Naivasha Sub-County Hospital mortuary as investigations into the crash continued.

As Jake concluded his tribute, he reminded Kenyans that death was not the final chapter of his father’s story.

“He leaves behind something stronger than absence. He leaves a legacy,” he said.

Though Cyrus Jirongo is gone, his son’s composed delivery, powerful words and commanding presence ensured that his legacy was honoured with dignity, depth and unforgettable grace.
