Nairobi County Chief Officer for Citizen Engagement and Customer Service, Geoffrey Mosiria, has defended his decision to step aside from the Marion Naipei case, insisting he was not intimidated.

Speaking during an interview with a local podcaster, in an episode aired on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, Mosiria said public opinion also played a role in his decision.

He noted that many people advised him to stay away from the matter, prompting him to reflect and review the situation carefully.

Additionally, Mosiria added that he felt God was guiding him to step aside and allow the authorities to handle the case professionally.

“The people’s voice is the voice of God; people came in large numbers and told me to stay away from this matter. I sat down, I did my research, and I went out to ask myself, ‘Why is it that I have helped many people, including the mama from Meru? Why is this one turning out to be different?” Mosiria stated.

“I noted that God was trying to tell me to stay out of this matter, and I did exactly what God told me.”

Mosiria explained that the matter had already been handed over to the police, and there was nothing more he could do other than let investigations take their course.

“I was not intimidated; I only had to step aside. I had already have handed her to the police, the matter was under the police, the only thing I could do was to step aside and allow the police to do their work. It is now the work of the police to investigate and know who was in the wrong between the two,” he said.

Choosing to defend Marion

Addressing claims that he acted unfairly, Mosiria maintained that his actions were guided by the law.

He said the viral video showed an illegal act, explaining that attempting to remove someone’s clothes to expose them is against the law.

“I’m never intimidated when I’m doing the right thing, and I never did anything wrong, just telling the people that in the video you are seeing online, someone was removing her clothes trying to expose her; it is illegal,” Mosiria noted.

Mosiria admitted that both parties involved may have been at fault, noting that they were intoxicated at the time. However, he clarified that action was taken because the woman reported that her rights had been violated.

“The two of them could be in the wrong, but whoever reported that her rights have been violated, we had to do what the government does,” Mosiria added.

“It is true both of them were in the wrong; they were intoxicated, but the one who reported was the lady. We tried to reach out to the man, but he said we can do whatever we want to do.”

Stepping aside

This comes after he officially stepped aside from the matter following growing public scrutiny and online backlash.

In an official statement released on Thursday, January 22, 2026, Mosiria emphasised that his intervention was strictly procedural.

He further acknowledged that the matter had been misrepresented by some individuals attempting to discredit him, saying the issue had now been politicised.

“I have listened to the voice of the people of goodwill. Leadership also means knowing when an issue has been politicised beyond its purpose. After reflection and counsel, I have chosen to step aside from this particular matter not out of weakness, but out of respect for public confidence and institutional integrity,” he added.

“Regrettably, this matter has been misrepresented by those seeking to discredit my name and distract from the critical work being done for Nairobi. I will not allow rumours or personal attacks to undermine my duties.”

He clarified that this decision is neither a retreat nor a concession to critics, but a reaffirmation of his commitment to serve with integrity.
