Tr Cillah reacts to TSC warning on teachers’ social media conduct

Kenyan social media personality and teacher, Tr Cillah, has reacted after the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) warned teachers against cyberbullying, harassment and other forms of unprofessional conduct on social media.
The commission said teachers who violate the rules will face disciplinary action. Cillah called for teachers to be treated with grace and recognised for talents beyond teaching.
Cillah said she was shocked by the warning, whether it was directed at her or another teacher. She explained that teachers have different abilities that can be useful both inside and outside the classroom.
She urged people to recognise those strengths instead of discouraging teachers from expressing themselves.
“Sisi walimu tunaonewangwa. I am just shocked, whether I was the one being addressed or any other teacher. Let’s treat teachers with grace and as people who are talented beyond teaching,” Tr Cillah said on Saturday, August 15, 2026.
Cillah explained that teachers who show certain strengths should be encouraged to develop them. She said a teacher who talks a lot, for example, could use that ability in areas such as leadership and the teachers’ union. She said teachers should be guided towards areas where their abilities can be useful.
Teachers have talents beyond the classroom
Cillah said teachers have different talents that should be supported instead of being rejected. She explained that a teacher who enjoys dancing could help children develop their dancing skills. She said this would allow teachers to use their talents while also helping learners discover their own abilities.
“The thing is, if you see a teacher with a certain strength, kama anaongea sana, kindly encourage them to join the teacher’s union, those politics. They can thrive well,” Tr Cillah said.
Cillah also gave the example of a teacher who enjoys dancing, saying such a teacher could use the talent to guide children. She explained that teachers should not simply be told that their talents are unwanted. She compared this approach to how teachers guide children when they notice certain behaviours or abilities.
“Ukiona teacher ana dance sana, let them mould other children in dancing. Si kumwambia eti hapana, hatupendi hivyo,” Tr Cillah said.
Cillah said teachers can help learners discover their abilities by guiding them towards activities that match their strengths. She explained that a child who talks a lot in class may be encouraged to explore journalism or drama instead of simply being punished. She said the same approach should be extended to teachers.
“In class when you see a child ana misbehave, maybe anaongea sana. Most of the time we encourage them to join journalism, vitu kama drama, you see, such things. You can’t just punish a child na umwambie toka uende,” Tr Cillah said.
Cillah maintained that teachers also have talents that deserve support and encouragement. She said many abilities may remain hidden among teachers if they are not given room to develop them.
Tr Cillah has been in the spotlight after she started imagining life as “Mrs George K Ruto” following a response from President William Ruto’s son George Ruto to her flirty comments on Instagram. She had been leaving playful comments on George’s posts, repeatedly calling him “handsome” and complimenting his appearance.
