Dorcas Rigathi urges Kenyans to avoid people who drain their energy
Former second lady, Pastor Dorcas Rigathi, has shared advice for Kenyans on the importance of surrounding themselves with positive influences and avoiding people who drain their energy.
In a statement shared on her official social media accounts on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, Pastor Dorcas emphasised that the company we keep can significantly affect our success and failure.
“The Company You Keep. As believers, the company we keep can significantly impact our success and failure. It’s crucial to surround ourselves with people who uplift and support us, while avoiding those who drain our energy,” Pastor Dorcas said.

Dorcas Rigathi also drew lessons from the Bible, highlighting the importance of wise counsel and godly companionship. She pointed to King David’s relationships with Samuel the prophet and his wife, Michal, as examples of how the right company can transform one’s life.
“The Bible teaches us about the importance of wise counsel and godly companionship. David’s relationship with Samuel, the prophet, and Michal the wife are great example.
“Also, when David was embattled by King Saul, he sought refuge with Samuel, and the presence of God changed everything. His enemies, instead of fighting began to prophesy under the power of God.”

Company to keep
In addition, she outlined the people Kenyans should surround themselves with. According to her, people who add value to their lives and well-being and speak truth and wisdom into their lives are ideal to have in their inner circle.
She also added that those support vision and goals and encourage us to pursue God’s will.

“Let’s choose to surround ourselves with people who: Value our lives and well-being, speak truth and wisdom into our lives, support our vision and goals and encourage us to pursue God’s will,” she urged.
The Pastor went on and advised Kenyans to pray to God to enable them to make a wise decision when choosing the company to keep.
“Prayer: Father, help us to choose our company wisely and surround ourselves with those who will uplift and support us. Amen,” she advised.
