The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has arrested two persons of interest in Mombasa in a coordinated operation that led to the recovery of 250 grammes of heroin.

According to a post by DCI on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) conducted a targeted raid following credible intelligence regarding individuals suspected of involvement in both drug and child trafficking.

The investigative agency highlighted that the operation focused on a house in Maweni Estate, Nyali, believed to be used to facilitate illicit activities.

“In a coordinated operation led by DCI Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) Mombasa, two traffickers have been arrested, leading to the recovery of 250 grammes of heroin. The targeted raid was initiated following credible intelligence regarding individuals implicated in both drug and child trafficking.”DCI said.

Recovery and arrests

DCI reported that officers recovered three sachets of heroin during the search, prompting the swift arrest of the persons of interest.

The investigative team revealed that preliminary inquiries indicate the suspects are linked not only to narcotics trafficking but also to child trafficking networks operating across Mombasa, Malindi, and Nairobi.

The persons of interest are currently in custody, undergoing processing pending arraignment. DCI highlighted that the arrests demonstrate the effectiveness of intelligence-led operations in dismantling criminal networks and protecting vulnerable children.

The investigative agency said the operation underscores the importance of community cooperation, urging the public to report any suspicious activity.

“This arrest and recovery reaffirm the DCI’s commitment to combating drug and child trafficking through intelligence-led operations, ensuring the protection of vulnerable children and the dismantling of criminal networks involved in these serious crimes.”The agency noted.

Linked case in Nakuru

The operation comes a day after Nakuru authorities arrested an individual in connection with a major drug haul, recovering heroin valued at Ksh 1.19 million in a swift intelligence-led operation.

In a statement posted by DCI on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, detectives from the ANU highlighted that the suspect was riding a motorcycle carrying luggage that caught the attention of officers.

Upon inspection, the detectives discovered 397 grams of heroin, neatly concealed for transport, along with syringes, bhang, and Supermatch cigarettes, DCI stated.
