2 nabbed in possession of bhang worth Ksh630K in Meru
Two drug traffickers have been arrested in Meru after police recovered bhang valued at approximately Ksh630,000 in a targeted operation.
According to a statement by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, the persons of interest were apprehended by law enforcement officers acting on a tip-off as part of an ongoing crackdown on narcotics trafficking.
Further, the DCI revealed that officers raided a rental house located in the Municipality area, Mwiteria sub-location, where they uncovered a significant cache of Cannabis Sativa.
“Upon entering the premises, they uncovered 22 kilograms of bhang and 440 rolls, all valued at approximately Ksh630,000 in the streets,” read the statement in part.
Officers also seized several items believed to have been used in the drug trade, including rolling papers, a digital weighing scale, 38 black courier bags, and a National Youth Service (NYS) smoke jacket, among other incriminating materials.

The two persons of interest were identified and arrested at the scene, then escorted, along with the recovered exhibits, to Meru Police Station.
The DCI has reiterated its commitment to intensifying the fight against narcotics trafficking through sustained, intelligence-led operations across the country.
Additionally, it has revealed that the ongoing crackdown aims to dismantle drug networks, seize illegal substances, and ensure that all individuals involved in the trade are brought to justice.
Elgeyo Marakwet
This comes a day after police officers in Elgeyo Marakwet County have seized seven bags of cannabis weighing 266.2 kilograms with an estimated street value of Ksh13,310,000.
According to reports by the officers, the bhang was being transported from Busia County to Nairobi County; however, it was intercepted at the Metkei area along the Eldoret-Ravine road in Keiyo South Constituency, Elgeyo Marakwet County.
Elgeyo Marakwet County Commissioner David Kosgei confirmed that security agencies intercepted a major drug consignment on Monday, January 19, 2026.
Acting on intelligence provided by members of the public, authorities were alerted to a suspicious vehicle suspected of trafficking drugs and other illicit substances.
Upon receiving the tip-off, a security team from Keiyo South, led by the Sub-County Police Commander and the OCS, laid a roadblock at Metkei, intercepting the vehicle, which was travelling from Eldoret toward Eldama Ravine.

“When the vehicle was stopped, officers discovered a large consignment of cannabis sativa haul consisted of seven large bags of the drug.” Kosgei noted.
Police further confirmed that the driver was taken into custody, whereupon interrogation, he revealed that the consignment originated in Busia and was destined for Nairobi.
“The officers acted immediately upon receiving the information. We have now engaged the services of the Anti-Narcotics Unit from Eldoret to assist with the investigation,” Kosgei said.
Following a formal evaluation, the seven bags were found to weigh a total of 266.2 kilograms, with an estimated street value of Ksh13,310,000.
