Beaver Supermoon 2025: When is the best time to watch the striking lunar event in Kenya on Wednesday, November 5?

Kenya and the world are poised for a striking lunar event on Wednesday night, November 5, 2025, as the Beaver Moon rises, appearing larger and brighter than any other moon of the year.
This will be the closest supermoon of 2025, offering a rare celestial show for stargazers across the globe.
A supermoon occurs when a full moon coincides with the closest point in its orbit to Earth, known as perigee, making it up to 14% larger and 30% brighter than the faintest full moon of the year, according to NASA.
This Beaver Moon is the second of three supermoons in 2025 and will come within about 221,800 miles (357,000 km) of Earth.
NASA notes that supermoons only happen three to four times a year and always appear consecutively. Throughout most of Earth’s orbit, perigee and full moons do not overlap, making each supermoon a special event.
Although the full moon technically peaks at 8:19 a.m. EST, which corresponds to 4:19 p.m. Kenyan time (EAT), the most captivating views will be just after sunset, when the glowing lunar disc rises on the eastern horizon.

According to global time TimeandDate.com, in Kenya, sunset is expected at 6:21 p.m., giving residents the perfect window to catch the moon rising in its full glory.
The term “Beaver Moon” has historical roots in early Native American and European folklore. It traditionally marked the season when beavers prepared for winter by building lodges, or when fur trappers set their traps before rivers froze.
Lunar significance
The Beaver Moon follows October’s Harvest Moon and precedes December’s Cold Moon. The phenomenon is visible worldwide, offering stargazers a chance to witness a strikingly luminous moon.
The moon’s orbit around Earth is slightly elliptical, which is why the supermoon appears bigger and brighter when it is closer to the planet.
In Kenya, the Beaver Supermoon will be most spectacular just after sunset on November 5. Observers should look toward the eastern horizon in clear-sky locations across the country.
Binoculars can enhance the view, but even the naked eye will reveal an unusually bright lunar disc.
Just like a lunar eclipse, the best location to view the Beaver Moon in Kenya will be Samburu County, widely considered the county with the clearest skies due to its minimal light pollution and strategic location.

This gives stargazers across the country an ideal vantage point to witness one of the brightest and largest moons of 2025.
While the supermoon’s closeness can cause slightly higher tides, NASA says the effect on Earth will not be significant.
