Van Quiz’s widow leans on faith as she marks first Mother’s Day without late singer

Van Quiz’s widow, Felisters Bosire, has marked her first Mother’s Day without the late urban Gusii singer.

In a message shared on Facebook on Sunday, May 10, 2026, Felisters celebrated mothers across the world while also reflecting on their personal journey of strength and resilience.

She expressed that despite all the challenges she is currently facing, she remains a strong superwoman, holding on firmly through a difficult season of life.

“Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers in the world. Despite all the challenges I am facing, I am a strong superwoman,” she wrote.

In her message, she acknowledged her faith, saying “Umbali huu ni Mungu,” crediting God for the distance she has come and the strength she continues to draw from Him.

She also made a heartfelt request, asking those around her to give her her flowers, a phrase reflecting her desire for appreciation and recognition during this emotional period.

“Umbali huu ni mungu. Mnipee maua yangu basi,” she added.

Untimely passing

Van Quiz, whose real name was Kelvin Ngiti, died on March 14, 2026, after a short illness that shocked both his family and fans.

According to his wife, who first confirmed his death, the singer had initially developed what appeared to be a minor illness before his condition rapidly worsened. He was rushed to hospital as the situation became critical, but sadly passed away while receiving treatment.

Earlier reports indicated that he had been admitted to hospital and was in a weak condition, with videos showing him lying on a hospital bed struggling to stay conscious as he battled the illness.

Further details later emerged from his family, with his mother revealing that he had been placed on life support at Tabaka Mission Hospital before his death.

She also disclosed that he had been facing both health and personal struggles in the months leading up to his passing, including financial challenges after his YouTube channels were shut down.

Van Quiz was a rising star in the Gusii urban music scene, known for blending the Ekegusii language with modern Afro-urban sounds. He had built a loyal fan base through songs such as Amasikani, Tata, and Omokung’u Omouko, earning recognition as one of the promising voices from the region.

He was laid to rest on March 27, 2026, at his parents’ home in Matagaro village, Bosoti Sengera, Kisii County, nearly two weeks after his death.

His burial drew hundreds of mourners, including family members, fellow artistes, leaders, and fans who gathered to pay their last respects. The ceremony began with a sombre service at Matagaro Primary School grounds, where emotional tributes were delivered in honour of his life and career.

The event was marked by a mix of grief and dramatic moments, including performances from local artistes. One of the most talked-about moments saw a performer climb onto a tent during a tribute, briefly shifting the mood before it returned to solemn reflection.
