Sanaipei Tande, also popularly known as Sana, has spent over 20 years carving out a space as one of Kenya’s most versatile and enduring musical talents.
Born on March 22, 1985, in Mombasa, she grew up balancing academics and a deep love for music.
Her journey took a decisive turn in 2004 when she auditioned for the East Africa Coca-Cola Popstars competition, emerging victorious as part of a trio and releasing her debut single ‘Leta Wimbo.‘
Solo Career and musical style
Though the group disbanded in 2005, Sana’s solo career quickly took off. Over the years, she has blended R&B, Afropop, Zouk, and Neo-Taarab into a distinctive sound, delivering hits like ‘Amina,’ ‘Mfalme wa Mapenzi,’ and ‘Jali.‘
Her 2025 single ‘Just The Way You Are,’ from the album 40 & Four-Tune, showcased her growth as an artist, balancing heartfelt lyrics with a commanding stage presence.

Beyond her music, Sana has excelled in other entertainment arenas. She’s hosted radio shows, bringing her charisma and authenticity to audiences nationwide.
Her acting roles in series such as Aziza and Kina highlighted her versatility, proving she could captivate audiences both on stage and on screen.
Collaborations and musical impact
Sana’s music catalogue shines with collaborations that have shaped the sound of Kenyan music over the years.
She joined forces with Jua Cali on the 2013 hit ‘Geti Kali’ and the nostalgic ‘Kwaheri’ and teamed up with Nyashinski for the soulful ‘Jali’ in 2022.
Her romantic Afro-pop tracks with Otile Brown, including ‘Chaguo La Moyo’ and ‘Aiyana’ (2020), became instant favourites.

Other notable features include ‘Wangu‘ with Nadia Mukami, ‘Hold You’ with Dufla (2021), ‘Rise Again’ with Nazizi, Romantico, and Samaki Mkuu, the remix ‘Liwe Liwalo’ with V-Be, ‘Nakuja’ with B Classic 006 (2021), and ‘You’ with Bigpin (2021).
These collaborations showcase her versatility, seamlessly crossing Gengetone, R&B, and Afro-pop while highlighting Kenya’s top musical talents.
Sana’s career also includes international recognition. In 2025, she represented Kenya at the International Music Contest Intervision with her song ‘Flavour,’ finishing 18th and demonstrating the global appeal of her artistry.
She has performed at major events, including the WRC Safari Rally 2026 in Naivasha and the Kalasha International Film and TV Awards, further cementing her status as a performer who connects with diverse audiences.
