King Kaka reveals full feature list for new album ‘Year of the Pen’
Rapper King Kaka has officially unveiled the star-studded lineup of artists featured on his highly anticipated album Year of the Pen, building anticipation ahead of its release on Friday, July 3, 2026.
In an announcement on Sunday, June 28, 2026, accompanied by a striking red promotional poster, an impressive cast of collaborators was revealed, including Otile Brown, Okello Max, Fathermoh, Scar Mkadinali, Tanzanian rap star Darassa, Emkay 64, Iyanii, Moti the NRG, Vinc on the Beat and Kipsang.

The lineup brings together some of Kenya’s biggest names alongside rising stars and one of Tanzania’s most celebrated hip-hop artiste, promising an album that blends lyrical depth, street authenticity and mainstream appeal across East Africa.
Genre-Blending Project
Year of the Pen will aim to showcase King Kaka’s ability to bridge multiple musical styles. While rooted in his signature storytelling rap, the 13-track project also embraces Afropop, urban R&B, Gengetone, drill and trap influences.

Otile Brown and Okello Max add melodic, radio-friendly hooks, while Fathermoh injects Gengetone energy. Scar Mkadinali contributes his gritty drill sound, while Darassa brings his signature Swahili rap style and cross-border appeal.
Emkay 64 and Moti the NRG round out the project with raw street lyricism that complements King Kaka’s reflective storytelling.

Lead single Braggadocious, featuring Iyanii, has already generated buzz with it being already released. King Kaka also worked closely with producer Vinc on the Beat and remained heavily involved throughout the album’s creative process.
Personal comeback
The album marks a deeply personal chapter in King Kaka’s career.
Speaking during an interview with Oga Obinna, the rapper explained that Year of the Pen symbolises a creative rebirth after overcoming some of the most difficult moments of his life.
“God has restored my pen… I’m on my second life. I’ve missed death many times, “the rapper stated.
Excitement surrounding the album has continued to build following The Coliseum, King Kaka’s immersive listening party held earlier this year.

The event featured live performances, a 20-member choir and a surprise appearance by Scar Mkadinali, earning praise from fans and industry players.
Adding a personal touch to the project, King Kaka’s daughter, Gweth Lisawanza, served as the album’s creative director, making Year of the Pen a family-driven production as much as it is a musical statement.
