Lydia Wanjiru says low self-esteem pushes many women to settle in relationships
Content creator Lydia Wanjiru has spoken about how low self-esteem affects many women in relationships.
She explained that constant criticism and body shaming can push women into settling for less in an interview on Thursday, May 14, 2026.
Lydia said women who confidently express themselves often become targets of criticism. According to her, many women face attacks because of how they dress, speak or present themselves online and offline.
“I feel like women are specifically targeted by men,” Lydia Wanjiru said.
The content creator explained that she chooses to appear online without filters or Photoshop. She said she prefers showing herself naturally while freely expressing her opinions through her content.

“Especially for us women who are confident enough to show up as we are. No filters, no Photoshop, we show up as we are and we dress as we want and express ourselves,” Lydia Wanjiru said.
Lydia further explained that her content mainly focuses on friendships, relationships, and families. She said she often speaks about the actions of men, something she believes sometimes leads to personal attacks against women.
Confidence and criticism online
“I create content around friendships, relationships, and families. I kinda call out men’s actions most of the time,” Lydia Wanjiru explained.
The content creator said criticism directed at outspoken women often shifts towards physical appearance. According to her, some people use body shaming as a way of silencing women who confidently express themselves.

“Usually ni wewe kwenda ndio maana umeona, it is always back to your body. It is just that target to silence you,” Lydia Wanjiru said.
She also connected the issue to self-esteem and relationships. Lydia explained that women who grow up without confidence or affirmation may end up accepting unhealthy relationships because they are searching for validation.
“I guess that leads to most women just settling with anyone. Your self-esteem is so low that they have never been told they are beautiful,” Lydia Wanjiru said.
The creator added that some women quickly attach themselves to men who show small amounts of attention because they are looking for reassurance and acceptance.
“So any man who shows little interest, they run with it,” Lydia Wanjiru explained.
Lydia continued to stress the importance of women expressing themselves freely without fear of criticism based on their appearance.
