Digital content creator Lydia Wanjiru has opened up about her difficult childhood experiences, revealing that she was body-shamed by family members while growing up.

Speaking in an interview posted on Thursday, May 14, 2026, Lydia shared that her struggles with body image began early in life, largely shaped by constant criticism from relatives and people close to her.

She explained that being raised in a family environment where remarks about her body were common had a lasting emotional impact.

According to Lydia, she often felt singled out as the “bigger child” compared to her peers, classmates, and cousins.

She said the comments she received as a child affected her confidence over time, especially since they came from people she trusted.

“I’ve always been bullied by my family. I’ve grown up as an orphan with relatives, so I’ve always been the bigger child amongst my peers, classmates, and cousins,” she said, recalling how body shaming followed her throughout her childhood.

Lydia added that the criticism was not limited to school or social settings, but also came from within her own household and extended family, making the experience even more painful.

She noted that these early experiences later influenced how she viewed her appearance and contributed to her desire to look better, which she says further shaped her personal decisions around her body and confidence.

Lydia has also previously opened up about undergoing cosmetic procedures, including liposuction, a tummy tuck, and a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL), which she said formed part of her personal transformation and recovery journey.

Self-acceptance and personal growth

She explained that these experiences helped shape how she views herself today, saying she has since learned to accept her body and make personal choices based on self-love rather than pressure from others.

Lydia also used her story to highlight the impact of body shaming on children, especially when it comes from adults, urging more awareness about how such comments can affect mental health and self-esteem.

She further reflected on the importance of protecting children from negative exposure, including online trolling, saying the internet can be both a powerful and harmful space depending on how it is used.

“And that’s why I always feel bad for people who expose their kids, and now their kids get trolled. I’m like, oh, I wish you could just… You could protect them. Yeah, because the internet is just a mad place,” she said.

Despite her past experiences, Lydia said she has grown stronger and more confident, adding that she now focuses on self-acceptance and personal growth.
