Gospel singer Essy Wa Willy reacts to claims she was caught with a married man inside a lodging

Gospel singer Essy Wa Willy has reacted to viral claims suggesting she took a married man to a Thika lodging, treated him to alcoholic drinks, and engaged in an affair.
Speaking during an interview hosted by Muhia Wa Maingi on Saturday, March 21, 2026, Essy firmly dismissed the allegations as entirely false and urged the public to consider how such claims can affect a person’s reputation and career.
“And you see, when claims are placed on you that you practice infidelity and that you were caught with someone in a lodging, it takes a toll. With such claims, even someone who has supported you, a friend or helper, may no longer stand by you. They may say that they have helped you financially, but you go and commit infidelity, and some may even block you. When you imagine that these stories are false and that you never slept with anyone, you start asking God, Where are you if you see everything?’ Why are you not coming to my rescue when I am being falsely accused?” she narrated.
Essy clarified the actual events behind the viral story, noting that she had been at a lounge in Mwiki with friends to watch a weekend football match between Arsenal and Manchester United.
On that day, heavy rain had caused intermittent power outages, and Essy invited a friend to join her so they could enjoy the match together. She was also accompanied by another friend from her Akorino community.
“I remember that lodging story started weeks ago. We were seven friends, and we went to a place in Mwiki where we liked to drink tea. That morning, it rained heavily, and the power went off. There was also a football match between Arsenal and Manchester United. It was the weekend, so I was not in a hurry, and I thought we could also watch the match. By the way, I started watching football when I was going through depression. I called a friend to come watch the match with me. I am not defending myself; I am just explaining,” she said.

After the game, the friend she had called paid for the drinks while the other friend kept the receipt.
Days later, the friend’s wife began sending Essy threatening and accusatory messages, claiming that Essy had been at a lodging with her husband, bought him alcohol, and encouraged him to drink.
Essy emphasised that she had chosen to drink non-alcoholic beverages herself and had no control over the man’s decisions, which were entirely his responsibility.
“It was not a lodging; it was just a lounge where we chilled to watch the game. I was with the friend I had called and another friend who is a Mukurino like me. After the game, the friend I called paid for the drinks, and the other friend kept the receipt in his pocket. Days later, his wife started sending me abusive messages, warning me to leave her husband alone, claiming I went with him to a lodging, paid for him, and even made him drink alcohol. But the alcohol was bought by the man himself, and I had no power to stop him from drinking. I chose non-alcoholic drinks, and it was his responsibility what he consumed,” she explained.
