Form 2 East: Salasya goes down memory lane with 2007 TBT post

Peter Salasya has taken a trip down memory lane, reminding Kenyans that long before Parliament, social media fame and the occasional political drama, he was just another high school boy trying to survive life in the dorms.
The Mumias East legislator recently shared a throwback photo from his days at Lubinu Boys High School, giving his followers a glimpse of the teenage version of the outspoken politician many know today.
In the photo shared on Friday, March 13, 2026, Salasya is seen standing beside a friend, both dressed in their school uniforms.
The MP explained that the picture was taken back in 2007 when he was in Form Two East at the Kakamega-based school.
“Lubinu boys in 2007, Nikiwa form two east ….2007, wewe ulikuwa class ?” Salasya wrote.
From humble beginnings to Parliament
Born in Kakamega County in 1989, Salasya grew up in a humble family and attended Shanderema Primary School before joining Lubinu Boys High School for his secondary education. His life took a difficult turn while he was still in Form Two when he lost his father, leaving the family to navigate life with limited resources.
The challenges did not end there. At one point, Salasya revealed that he lived in a modest house without basic amenities and even slept on the floor because he did not have a bed. Despite these hardships, he remained determined to continue with his education and change his circumstances.
After completing high school, he proceeded to Egerton University, where he pursued a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Banking and Finance. It was during his campus years that his leadership ambitions started taking shape through student politics and community work.
Life after graduation was not glamorous either. Before politics came calling, Salasya worked several jobs, including selling bicycles, tutoring at Sigalagala National Polytechnic and later working as an operations officer and cashier at Diamond Trust Bank.
Salasya’s first attempt at politics in 2017 was anything but successful. He contested the Mumias East parliamentary seat but finished last, managing only a few hundred votes. His campaign budget was so small that he reportedly attended funerals and contributed about Ksh200 just to introduce himself to voters.
But if there is one thing about Salasya, it is that giving up is not really his style.
He returned to the grassroots, continued engaging the community and championed issues affecting residents, especially the revival of Mumias Sugar Company, which many locals depend on. Over time, his persistence began to win people over.
In the 2022 General Election, Salasya shocked political heavyweights when he won the Mumias East parliamentary seat on a Democratic Action Party–Kenya (DAP-K) ticket, officially becoming the constituency’s Member of Parliament.
