Comedian MCA Tricky recently relocated to Germany to pursue a Master of Science in Mechatronics. The move left some of his followers puzzled.

They wondered why he would leave a thriving comedy and media career in Kenya to go back to class. In a Facebook update shared on Saturday, July 11, 2026, the entertainer clarified that he is not abandoning his craft. Instead, he wants to prepare himself for a fast-paced world.

“The world is changing faster than ever, and I refused to watch it change from my sidelines. That’s why I crossed continental borders to get my MSc in Mechatronics here in Germany, not to replace my artistic gift, but to strengthen my future,” he stated.

He highlighted that academic qualifications and talent play different roles in a person’s life, noting that degrees open specific doors while talent builds relationships and connects with audiences. The comedian aims to prove that education and creativity can work together seamlessly.

So what is mechatronics?

The word sounds complex, but mechatronics is simply the intersection of multiple engineering fields. It brings together mechanical engineering, electronics, and computer science to create smart systems and automated machines.

Anyone who has used a modern washing machine, driven a car with an anti-lock braking system, or seen industrial robots assembling products has interacted with mechatronics.

Professionals in this sector design, build, and test these intelligent systems. They use electronic sensors and software to make mechanical devices operate efficiently and safely.

A peer-reviewed research paper published in the MDPI journal explains the discipline clearly.

The researchers note, “Mechatronics as a Science can be defined as a synergic combination of mechanical engineering, electronic control, and software design to develop products and manufacturing processes.”

The course is incredibly relevant in the modern economy. Global industries are moving heavily towards automation. Companies are relying on robotics and smart control systems to reduce production costs and improve output quality.

A specialist in this field can work in manufacturing, aviation, robotics, telecommunications, and the automotive sector. They bridge the gap between physical machinery and the software controlling it.

MCA Tricky earned his Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering in 2019 from Kenyatta University after enrolling in 2013.
