I am Gen Z president: Boniface Mwangi vows to bypass traditional politics to give young Kenyans power

Human rights activist Boniface Mwangi has said he wants to create more space for young Kenyans to take up leadership as he continues his campaign ahead of the 2027 General Election.
In a video shared on his Instagram page on Monday, August 25, 2026, Mwangi said his political journey was not only about seeking votes but also about building a movement centred on accountability, truth and the rule of law.
He spoke after meeting volunteers who have been supporting his presidential campaign and urged young people to remain involved in shaping the country’s future.
Mwangi on giving Gen Z space
Mwangi said his campaign would focus on reaching young people across the country rather than expecting them to fit into traditional political structures. He said young Kenyans should be given an opportunity to lead in their own way and have their concerns reflected in the country’s political direction.
“As the President of Gen Z, we will go where young people are and create space for young people to lead. We mustn’t lose who we are by trying to fit into old politics,” Mwangi said.
He added that his campaign was seeking to build a movement based on principles that he believes should guide the country’s leadership.
“Let’s build a movement of truth, accountability, and the rule of law, with the belief that Kenyans will choose right at the ballot,” he added.
‘It’s not just about me’
Mwangi also encouraged supporters to see their involvement in his campaign as part of a wider effort to push for change.
He said supporting his bid should not be limited to financial contributions, noting that spreading the message and taking part in the political process were equally important.
“Joining me is not just about money; it’s spreading the word and acting on a better future and the changes we want for Kenya. Because at the end of the day, it’s not just about me, it’s about the country,” he said.
Mwangi to tour the country
The activist said his manifesto is already taking shape, but the final version will be informed by conversations with Kenyans from different parts of the country.
He plans to travel across the country, listen to citizens and use their concerns to shape his policies ahead of the election.
“At the end of the day, I have my manifesto which I’ve written down, but my final manifesto, which will be launched next year, will come from me travelling to the entire country,” he explained.
2027 presidential bid
Mwangi officially announced his intention to run for president in the 2027 General Election on August 27, 2025, during Katiba Day celebrations at Ufungamano House in Nairobi.
He was later elected leader and chairperson of the Ukweli Party during a national delegates conference in Nairobi.
Since announcing his bid, Mwangi has focused on young voters, particularly Gen Z, encouraging them to move beyond street protests and use their voter cards to influence political change at the ballot.
He has also called on young Kenyans to hold leaders accountable over issues affecting the country and support legal action against those accused of wrongdoing.
