The Polygamist: Milly Wa Jesus sends warning to couples hooked to the viral series

Kabi Wa Jesus’s wife, Milly, has questioned the growing obsession among married couples with the South African drama series The Polygamist, warning that some viewers may be giving too much attention to a show whose storyline centres around betrayal and multiple relationships.
Speaking in a TikTok video on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, Milly said she was surprised to see many married people constantly discussing the series, asking others whether they had watched it and sharing their thoughts about its storyline.
According to the mother of two, she could not understand how adults, especially those with families and responsibilities, found time to follow an entire series.
“I am wondering, over 30-year-olds, where are you getting time to watch a series? Where, honestly? For me, the last time I watched a series fully was after college. Now I hear everyone talking about The Polygamist everywhere, asking if you have watched it,” she said.
Milly questioned why the series had become such a major topic among married people, saying she was uncomfortable with the attention being given to a show that explores polygamy, infidelity and complicated relationships.
She argued that repeatedly discussing and praising such content could influence how people perceive certain relationship choices.
“What are people looking for? Do you know words have power? Why would you keep speaking good about polygamy? Asking people if they have watched The Polygamist,” she said.

She claimed that some viewers had even admitted that watching the series had made them develop fears about marriage.
“And others I have seen are saying they are even afraid of getting into marriage after watching The Polygamist,” she said.
The content creator also questioned reports of people staying awake late into the night to continue watching episodes, saying adults should prioritise their responsibilities.
“People are getting late to meetings, and others are failing to go to work the next day because they did not sleep as they were watching The Polygamist. Where are people getting that time? Aren’t you busy? You’d better even sleep,” she added.
Milly further argued that married couples should focus their energy on strengthening their relationships rather than spending excessive time consuming content that focuses on relationship conflicts.
“A person who is married should be doing a couple of things at that time, or they join hands and pray, not sit down and watch such a movie,” she said.
Despite the popularity of the series, Milly made it clear that it is not the type of show she would choose to watch, saying she would rather support content that highlights commitment and faithfulness in marriage.
She said the kind of relationship series she would enjoy would be one centred on monogamy and featuring her husband Kabi Wa Jesus, whom she described as an example of a committed partner.
“The movie I would entertain is one about monogamy, and you feature my husband, Kabi, because he is the best monogamist. I cannot watch The Polygamist,” she said.
Hit series
Her comments came as The Polygamist continued dominating conversations across social media platforms, with many viewers sharing their reactions to its dramatic storyline involving love, betrayal and hidden relationships.
The series follows Jonasi Gomora, a wealthy and powerful banking CEO whose carefully built empire begins falling apart after his secret life is exposed.
Played by S’dumo Mtshali, Jonasi appears to have a successful career and a stable marriage with Joyce Gomora, portrayed by Gugu Gumede. However, behind the public image lies a complicated web of secret relationships, hidden families and years of deception.
While the series has attracted millions of viewers because of its dramatic twists, Milly said she was concerned that some people were becoming too invested in the storyline.
