MC Gogo reveals what Kenyan artistes need to compete with international stars

MC Gogo has revealed what he believes Kenyan artistes need to compete with international stars, urging Kenyans to give local performers stronger support by attending their concerts and buying tickets.
Speaking in a video shared on his social media page on Monday, August 31, 2026, MC Gogo pointed to the recent Amapiano event at Uhuru Gardens, which attracted about 20,000 people.
He praised the organisers and attendees for turning up in large numbers, while using the event to raise questions about the support given to Kenyan artistes. “Do we give our local artists the support they need the way we support international artists?” he asked.
Local artistes curating live shows
MC Gogo noted that there has been an increase in Kenyan artistes putting together their own headline concerts and experiences instead of relying only on performances at other events.
He highlighted recent shows by several artistes, including Otile Brown’s Awoza World, Redsan at 30, Nameless at 25, Nadia at 10 and Nyashinski’s Showman concert.
He also mentioned Matata’s Gigi Ya Wo and a recent performance by Karun, saying the shows demonstrated the effort Kenyan artistes are putting into live entertainment.
According to MC Gogo, the growth is also visible in the production of the concerts, with artistes investing in dancers, set designs and appearances by their collaborators. “Kenyan artists will never fail you when it comes to curating shows,” he said, while praising the production standards of recent concerts.
Calls for support
The content creator encouraged fans to attend local concerts and buy tickets, saying supporting an artiste does not always have to involve financial contributions beyond purchasing a ticket.
He also clarified that supporting international artistes is not a problem, but argued that local performers should receive similar backing from Kenyan audiences.
“It’s not bad to go to international artists’ shows, go! I’ll also go. But if we gave that same support we give foreign artists to our own local artists, I swear, it could build them up massively,” MC Gogo said.
He further explained that consistent attendance at local concerts could help artistes grow their live performances and create more opportunities within the entertainment industry.
MC Gogo announces October show
As part of his appeal, MC Gogo revealed that he will hold his own show on October 31, 2026. He described the event as a fully curated experience rather than a conventional entertainment night, promising a more intimate setting for those who attend.
“I don’t even need 20,000 people; I just want an intimate crowd. Come through, let’s have a great time,” he said.
