Samidoh goes live on Facebook with DCP candidate as gunshots rock tense Ol Kalou by-election
By Steve Ireri, July 16, 2026Mugithi singer Samidoh Muchoki on Thursday, July 16, 2026, appeared in a Facebook Live broadcast alongside Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) Ol Kalou parliamentary candidate Sammy Kamau Ngotho and DCP deputy party leader Cleophas Malala as tensions escalated during the Ol Kalou by-election following reports of armed men disrupting voting at several polling stations.
The live broadcast was streamed through Samidoh’s official Facebook account, with the singer standing alongside the DCP leaders as they addressed supporters over the chaotic incidents.
Although Samidoh did not speak during the livestream, he remained beside the leaders throughout the address before waving his hand in support as the broadcast came to an end.
Speaking during the livestream, Ngotho revealed that armed, masked men had raided St Joseph’s Primary School in an attempt to disrupt the voting exercise.
According to the DCP candidate, the group arrived at the polling station in Subaru vehicles before being confronted by his supporters.
“This is Ol Kalou, and we are in a place called Kwa Mukurinu. We have gathered here because a few minutes ago, some masked armed goons raided St Joseph’s Primary School. They came in Subarus, and when our team noticed them, they charged at them and cornered them. They begged to be allowed to leave,” he claimed.
Ngotho further confirmed that although the group was allowed to leave, they fired shots at his supporters before fleeing the scene.
“So we allowed them to leave, and before they did, they fired at our people. As you can see here, these are cartridges. One is for an AK-47, and the other is from a G3,” he said while displaying what he claimed were spent bullet cartridges.
The DCP candidate went on to claim that similar incidents had also been reported at Simba Primary School, Mumbi, and AIC Primary School, where residents chased away the suspected attackers.
“They have again gone to a school called Simba and did some attack there. Again, the residents threw them out. Also in Mumbi and at AIC Primary School,” he said.
Ngotho urged anyone intending to interfere with the electoral process to stay away from Ol Kalou, warning that residents would defend the integrity of the vote.
“I want to tell them that now they have tested the patience of our people. We are urging people of Ol Kalou, armed goons, kindly keep off. Let the goons keep off. They should know these are the Mau Mau people. They fought the white men without any guns,” he said.

Also addressing the gathering, Malala appealed to residents to remain calm as voting progressed, expressing confidence that the DCP candidate was headed for victory.
“We want to ask the people of Ol Kalou to remain calm as we work towards counting of votes. We are confident that we have won, and there is no cause for alarm,” Malala said.
He further encouraged voters to remain vigilant during the tallying process by turning up at polling centres after voting concluded.
“We encourage our people not to stay at home. They should come out in big numbers at polling centres so we count and guard our votes,” he added.
The Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election was held to elect a successor to the late David Njuguna Kiaraho, with the contest largely viewed as a high-stakes battle between the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP).
