Mosiria: I watched the Sheryl Gabriella video in church

Nairobi County Chief Officer for Citizen Engagement and Customer Service Geoffrey Mosiria has opened up about the moment he first came across the viral video linked to content creator Sheryl Gabriella, revealing that it unexpectedly appeared on his phone while he was attending a church service.
Speaking in an interview shared by Iko Nini Podcast on TikTok on Thursday, July 16, 2026, Mosiria said he had received a notification on his phone during the service and initially assumed it was an urgent message that required his attention.
According to him, the notification came through Telegram, prompting him to briefly check his phone without anticipating the nature of the content.
“I got a notification on my phone. I thought maybe there was an emergency and that’s why someone had sent a message. I opened my phone. You know once a notification pops up. It came on Telegram,” he said.
Mosiria explained that when the video began playing, it initially appeared harmless, showing someone dressed in red, leaving him unaware of what would follow.
He said the situation quickly changed, leaving him shocked, especially because he was seated next to a pastor inside the church.
“It started well. Someone dressed in red. So I was wondering what kind of message this was. I was in church at that time, and I remember the person seated next to me was a pastor. Then all of a sudden the video took a different turn,” he recalled.

Mosiria admitted that the pastor looked at him in disbelief, seemingly wondering why he was watching such a video during a church service.
“And the pastor who was seated next to me started looking at me and wondering what kind of man I was, watching such videos,” he said.
Insisting that he had not intentionally searched for the clip, Mosiria described himself as an innocent Christian who had been caught off guard by the unexpected content.
“Honestly, I am an innocent person. I am a Christian, and I did not expect such things to pop up on my phone,” he added.
The county official further explained that part of his work requires him to monitor online conversations to understand what Nairobi residents are discussing and saying about county services.
He said this responsibility often requires him to remain active on digital platforms, making it difficult to avoid trending discussions altogether.
“And in online spaces, as leaders, we have to be there to see what people are saying about us as Nairobians and how we serve them,” he stated.
Mosiria disclosed that after leaving church, he deliberately watched the entire video in a bid to understand who was behind it and why it had generated so much public attention.
“So I got annoyed that someone could record such content. After church, I went and sat down and watched it all to see who this person was who was embarrassing us,” he said.
