Content creator Lydia Wanjiru has reacted to Jackie Matubia’s recent remarks about her nanny leaving without notice after working with her for nearly six years.

In a series of Instagram stories shared on Friday, July 3, 2026, Lydia sympathised with the actress but said the incident reinforced why she chose to hire her own nanny through an agency.

Lydia said using a formal process gave her an opportunity to explain what she needed at home before choosing someone suitable for the role.

Lydia reacts to Jackie’s experience

The content creator said she was sorry about what Jackie had gone through, especially after the actress revealed that she had supported the nanny during their years together.

Lydia questioned why some household workers leave suddenly, even after building close relationships with their employers.

“Jackie Matubia, I’m so sorry. But why do nannies leave abruptly despite how good you have been to them? Even Jackie’s nanny boarded international flights,” she said.

She then explained that she chose a different approach when looking for help at home.

“That is why I opted to get my nanny the professional way,” Lydia added.

Choosing an agency process

Lydia said she used an agency to find her nanny and followed a placement process before making her final decision. According to her, the process began when she contacted the agency and explained the kind of help she needed in her household.

She said the agency then presented her with a suitable candidate, after which she carried out interviews before choosing the person she felt was right for the job.

“I got mine through an agency and followed the placement procedure. First, I contacted the agency, then I explained my household needs,” Lydia said.

She added that she was able to review a candidate and hold interviews before signing an agreement.

“I reviewed a suitable candidate, conducted interviews, then signed an agreement with the employer and chose the one that best fits me,” she added.

Jackie’s nanny leaves earlier than planned

Lydia’s comments came after Jackie revealed that her nanny had left earlier than the date they had agreed on. Jackie said the nanny had been expected to leave in December 2026 so she could focus on starting a business.

The actress said she had planned to support the business idea financially, but the nanny reportedly left before the planned retirement date.

“My nanny of five years, close to six, has done me badly. No matter how well you treat people, they can still treat you like you meant nothing. Do good and move on,” Jackie said.

Despite feeling hurt, Jackie said she did not wish her former nanny any harm.

“I wish her well. I did my best,” she said.

Lydia’s response has opened up conversations online about the relationship between employers and domestic workers, with some social media users sharing their own experiences of sudden departures and others supporting formal hiring arrangements.
