Lydia Wanjiru reveals why she is happy to be child-free

Lydia Wanjiru has explained why she is happy to remain child-free, saying she is grateful not to have the responsibilities that come with marriage and child-rearing.
The digital content creator questioned the role a man would play while she handles several household duties.
Lydia said marriage could come with expectations that would leave her taking care of her husband and his children. She described the responsibilities she would have to handle, including cooking, feeding the family and making sure everyone is settled for the night.
“Aki mambo ya ndoa, thank God I am child-free and marriage-free,” Lydia Wanjiru said on Friday, August 7, 2026.
The digital content creator explained that she does not see the appeal of taking on such responsibilities. She questioned what her husband would be doing while she prepared food, fed the children, and made sure everyone had gone to bed.
“Yaani mimi nimpikie, nimlishe, nilishe watoto wake. Ni make sure kila mtu amelala, kila mtu amekula, what is he going to do?” Lydia Wanjiru said.
Lydia on choosing a child-free life
Lydia’s comments come after she previously defended her decision not to have children. She clarified that her choice is rooted in love rather than dislike, addressing a common perception about people who decide to remain child-free.
She addressed the issue on her Instagram page on Saturday, February 21, 2026. Lydia said one of the biggest misconceptions about child-free people is that they do not like or love children, adding that some people negatively view the choice.
“I think the worst perception about child-free people is that we don’t like or love kids,” Lydia Wanjiru said.
Lydia explained that her decision is also connected to how she views the world children would grow up in. She said her love for children is part of the reason she would hesitate to bring one into an environment she considers harsh and unforgiving.
The content creator has therefore continued to stand by her decision not to have children. Her latest comments focused on the responsibilities she associates with marriage and raising children, as she explained why she is comfortable with her current choice.
“What is he doing as I am preparing everyone for bed?” Lydia Wanjiru said.
