Kinyita’s wife reveals what happened before son drowned, comes to Babytop’s defence

The wife of Gatundu South CDF chair Peter Kinyita has spoken out against people blaming popular Kameme FM presenter Muthoni Babytop following the tragic death of their child, Angel Theo Kiragu, who drowned at a family gathering.
In an emotional message during her son’s burial on Friday, June 19, 2026, Kinyita’s wife asked Kenyans to stop attacking individuals over the heartbreaking incident and allow the family time to mourn their loss.
She revealed details of what happened on the day her son died, explaining that she was present during the incident and that it was the child’s father, Peter Kinyita, who pulled him out of the water.
“I was there, and the dad was the one who pulled him out,” she said.
The grieving mother also defended Babytop, stating that the incident should not be used as a reason to blame the radio presenter, who has faced criticism from some members of the public following the tragedy.
She explained that the family had not gone to the Wakirumba home for entertainment as some people had assumed, but rather for a family visit.
According to her, the day was meant to be a family moment and was not a planned outing where people had gathered for fun.
“It was a family day. It was not going there to have fun as you may think,” she said.

The mother further revealed that her visit to the Wakirumba family home was not her first interaction with Babytop, saying their relationship had existed before the tragic incident.
“It was not my first encounter with Muthoni,” she explained.
She added that the family had gone to visit their father and that the gathering involved only a small number of people.
“We never go with many people,” she said.
Addressing questions about supervision during the visit, Kinyita’s wife said she did have assistance available that could have helped look after the children, but she chose to attend with her children alone.
“I had help which could have helped with kids, but I chose to go with the kids alone,” she revealed.
She also disclosed that the tragic incident was not the first time her son had been near a water body, pushing back against assumptions that the child had never been around swimming areas before.
“It’s not the first time that baby has gone near a water body,” she said.
The grieving mother then made a direct appeal to people discussing the tragedy online, asking them to stop assigning blame and give the family space during their mourning period.
“So please stop blaming people. And from now on, please let my family mourn in peace,” she said.
She also shared the painful final moments involving Babytop, revealing that on that day, the radio presenter was the first person to see her son and unfortunately became the last person to see him before the tragedy unfolded.
“On that 5th, Muthoni Babytop was the first person to see my son, and unfortunately, she was the last person to see him,” she said.
