Dennis Itumbi reveals how Muthoni Babytop helped him after being kidnapped in 2021

Head of Presidential Special Projects and Creative Economy Coordination Dennis Itumbi has revealed how Kameme FM presenter Muthoni Babytop stood by him after he was kidnapped and injured in 2021, as he defended their friendship amid criticism surrounding the death of Kinyita’s son, Angel Theo Kiragu.
Speaking during the burial of baby Angel Theo Kiragu on Friday, June 19, 2026, Itumbi said his friendship with Babytop goes beyond politics and should not be judged based on their differing political positions.
Itumbi said he had no apologies to make for being friends with Babytop, describing her as a person who supported him during one of the most difficult moments of his life.
“I am here today to tell you Muthoni Babytop is my friend. And I have no apologies to make about it,” Itumbi said.
He acknowledged that, like any other person, Babytop has her own weaknesses, but insisted that such imperfections do not erase the friendship and support they have shared over the years.
“Like every other human being, she has her weaknesses, but she is my friend,” he added.

Itumbi also addressed political differences between him and Babytop, noting that the presenter has at times criticised President William Ruto, whom he supports politically.
According to Itumbi, political disagreements should not automatically turn personal friendships into rivalries.
“And Muthoni, yes, sometimes takes her microphone and goes after a man I support called President William Ruto, but that does not make her my enemy. And that does not make her an enemy of the president,” he said.
He urged Kenyans to separate political disagreements from personal relationships, saying people should be allowed to maintain friendships beyond political affiliations.
“Please learn to fight your political battles and to stay with your political friends and your political enemies and not choose our friends and our enemies,” Itumbi stated.
The presidential aide then recalled the support Babytop offered him in 2021 after he was kidnapped and injured, saying her actions during that difficult period showed the true nature of their friendship.
Itumbi said Babytop personally reached out, sent him financial assistance and helped him access medical care after the incident.
“When I was kidnapped in 2021 and injured, this Muthoni took her phone, sent money to me and took me to hospital,” he revealed.

He further said Babytop visited him at home after the incident and prayed with him as he recovered.
“She came and prayed with me in the house. How can she be my enemy now? How?” Itumbi posed.
