Kapitani speaks after viral hit ‘Kitemeo’ is removed from YouTube

Musician Kapitani has broken his silence after his viral hit “Kitemeo” was removed from YouTube following a public row with fellow artiste Mastar VK over the song’s ownership and copyright claims.
In an interview on Friday, July 31, 2026, Kapitani appeared to take responsibility for the controversy, suggesting it was a consequence of his growing success.
“Naweza sema hii mambo yote nilijiletea… for daring to be the big artist in Kenya,” he said.
Management working to restore ‘Kitemeo’
Addressing the song’s removal, Kapitani revealed that his management is already working to have the music video restored on YouTube.
“Management yangu inawakia video ya ‘Kitemeo’ irudi,” he said.
The singer added that they would not rush the process, explaining that some issues first needed to be resolved before the song could return to the platform.
“Kwanza kuna vitu zinafaa resolve, of course,” he said.

The controversy began after Mastar VK accused Kapitani of copyright infringement, claiming they had recorded “Kitemeo” together alongside another artist.
According to Mastar VK, he helped create the song’s hook and recorded the track, but was later excluded from the final release after his verse was removed.
He further claimed that while his verse was omitted, his background vocals remained in the version that was uploaded to YouTube.
The artist demanded compensation for his contribution and warned that if the matter was not resolved, he would seek to have the song removed from YouTube.
Following the dispute, “Kitemeo” was eventually taken down from the platform.
Downplays feud, teases new music
Kapitani also dismissed claims that he was involved in a major feud, suggesting the disagreement was not something he was dwelling on.
“I think it’s one-sided basi. Jo haiko hii side,” he said.
Despite the setback, the musician assured fans that more music is on the way.
He revealed that he has several unreleased songs and hinted at an upcoming collaboration, explaining that he prefers to release music at the right time rather than rushing projects.
Before it was taken down, “Kitemeo” had become one of Kenya’s biggest songs, topping the YouTube Music Trending chart in Kenya and amassing more than 500,000 views.
