Hollywood star Tyrese Gibson heads for Nairobi after Uganda tour

American actor and R&B singer Tyrese Gibson is heading to Nairobi after completing a series of engagements in Uganda as part of his ongoing tour of Africa.
The Fast & Furious star announced his trip to Kenya in a video shot at an airport on Thursday, August 27, 2026, expressing his excitement about visiting Nairobi.
“I’m on my way to Nairobi… Nairobi, Africa,” Gibson said as he made his way through the airport.
Gibson’s trip to Kenya follows his visit to Uganda, where he arrived on Tuesday, August 25, at the invitation of the Ugandan Government and private-sector partners.
Uganda visit
His Uganda visit was linked to the launch of the Explore Uganda Coffee Tourism campaign, an initiative aimed at connecting the country’s coffee industry with tourism and cultural experiences.
The campaign brings together the Uganda Tourism Board, Kampala Capital City Authority, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Africa Coffee Park.
During his stay, Gibson met President Yoweri Museveni at State House, where they discussed creative arts, tourism and the historical and cultural links between Africa and African Americans.
Museveni also showcased Uganda’s coffee and other cultural artefacts to the visiting delegation.
Gibson was expected to take part in activities beyond his meeting with government officials, including visiting the Source of the Nile, planting coffee trees and meeting coffee farmers in western Uganda.
Music and film career
Gibson is widely recognised for his work in both music and film.
He began his music career in the late 1990s and is known for songs including “Sweet Lady,” “How You Gonna Act Like That,” “Signs of Love Makin’,” “Shame” and “Stay.”
His debut album, Tyrese, was released in 1998 and went platinum in the United States. His later albums, 2000 Watts and I Wanna Go There, also earned gold certifications.
In 2015, he released Black Rose, which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200.
Gibson has received six Grammy nominations during his music career, although he has not won a Grammy Award.
He has, however, won other honours, including an American Music Award for Favourite New R&B/Soul Artist in 2000 and a Soul Train Award for his music.
On the acting side, Gibson is best known for portraying Roman Pearce in the Fast & Furious franchise. He has also appeared in films including Baby Boy and the Transformers series.
Continuing his African journey
Before visiting Uganda, Gibson was in South Africa, where he headlined the Ndlala Grandeur II R&B Festival in Pretoria.
His current journey has also carried a personal significance. Earlier this year, Gibson said an AncestryDNA test showed he was 82 per cent African, with ancestry connected to several countries across the continent.
His upcoming Nairobi stop will add Kenya to a growing list of African destinations featured during his 2026 tour.
While details of his programme in Kenya have yet to be fully announced, his arrival is expected to attract attention from fans and the entertainment industry as the Hollywood star continues his engagement with the continent.
