Muhoozi asks actor Tyrese Gibson to bring more Black Americans to Uganda

Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has asked American actor and singer Tyrese Gibson to consider Uganda his second home and encourage more Black Americans to visit the country.
Muhoozi made the remarks after meeting the Hollywood star, who is currently in Uganda for a three-day visit aimed at promoting the country’s coffee, tourism and investment opportunities.
“Today, I was very happy and honoured to meet the American superstar Tyrese Gibson,” Muhoozi stated in a post shared on his X account on Wednesday, August 26, 2026.
During his meeting with Gibson, Muhoozi encouraged the actor to use his international profile to help Uganda attract more visitors from the African diaspora.
“I told him to consider Uganda as his second home and bring more of our black brothers and sisters in America to visit,” Muhoozi stated.
Gibson arrived in Uganda on Tuesday, August 25, following an invitation from the Ugandan Government and private sector partners. His visit is centred around the launch of the Explore Uganda Coffee Tourism campaign, which seeks to combine Uganda’s coffee industry with tourism and cultural experiences.
The campaign is a joint initiative involving the Uganda Tourism Board, Kampala Capital City Authority, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Africa Coffee Park. It aims to allow international visitors to experience Uganda’s coffee value chain while also exploring its attractions and cultural heritage.
Gibson’s visit has included high-level engagements as well as activities connected to Uganda’s tourism and coffee sectors. He met President Yoweri Museveni at State House, where they discussed creative arts, tourism and the historical and cultural ties between Africa and African Americans.
The visit is also taking Gibson beyond the usual red carpet setting associated with Hollywood stars. He is expected to visit the Source of the Nile, participate in a coffee tree planting activity and meet coffee farmers in western Uganda.
