Juja TikToker Derrick Omollo laid to rest in emotional farewell in Kisii

Juja TikToker Derrick Omollo has been laid to rest in Marani, Kisii County, in an emotional farewell attended by family, friends, former high school classmates and fellow content creators.

The burial on Friday, September 18, 2026, marked the end of a difficult journey for Omollo’s loved ones, who gathered to bid farewell to the young TikToker whose life was tragically cut short.

The sombre mood was evident throughout the ceremony, with mourners struggling to contain their emotions as they remembered a young man they described as respectful, friendly and full of life.

Family and friends bid Derrick farewell

Family members, friends and former high school classmates gathered in Marani to pay their final respects to Omollo.

Those who knew him remembered different aspects of his life, with his family describing him as a respectful child who brought joy to those around him.

His relatives mourned the loss of a young man whose life, they said, had been cut short at a time when he still had much ahead of him.

The emotional tributes reflected the pain of losing Derrick at a young age, with mourners remembering his character and the relationships he built with people around him.

Derrick’s final journey

Before the burial, Omollo’s body had been transported from General Kago Funeral Home in Nairobi to Kisii.

Family members and friends had gathered at the funeral home on Thursday, September 17, for prayers and body viewing before beginning the journey to his rural home.

His remains were later taken to Marani, where relatives, friends, former classmates and fellow content creators gathered for the final send-off.

The family had earlier described the burial as an opportunity for loved ones and well-wishers to come together and give Derrick a dignified farewell.

“Forever in Our Hearts,” the family said in its tribute, adding that a life well lived would always be remembered.

How Derrick Omollo Died

Omollo’s death followed an incident involving him and four other people in Juja.

His friend and fellow TikToker Mildred previously said the group was out for a walk when they were confronted by suspected attackers.

The group reportedly scattered as they attempted to escape, with Omollo running towards the quarry in an effort to get away.

Mildred said Omollo died after fleeing towards the quarry side.

His death has since left fellow content creators and his followers mourning the loss of a young man whose online presence had been growing rapidly.

Fellow TikToker Leo previously described Omollo as a “champion”, recalling how he grew his TikTok following from about 1,000 followers to 100,000 in four months.
