Asake issues statement after fan’s death at a Nairobi concert

Nigerian singer Asake has issued a statement following the death of a concertgoer at his Nairobi show on December 20. The singer said he was deeply affected by the incident that happened during the festival in the Kenyan capital.

He confirmed the death of Karen Lojore on Monday, December 22, 2025, and expressed sorrow over the loss, saying the news left him shaken and heartbroken.

Asake said, “I am devastated by the tragic incident that took place at the festival on Dec 20th in Nairobi.”

He added that his thoughts were with the people most affected by the tragedy. The singer said the loss had weighed heavily on him since he learned about it and described it as a painful moment.

In his message, Asake sent condolences to the family and close friends of the deceased.

He said, “My heart goes out to the family, friends, and loved ones of Karen Lojore.”

He also stated that he would stand with them during this difficult time and offered support as they mourned their loss.

The singer said he was committed to understanding what happened on the day of the concert.

“I pledge to support and do my best to understand what happened,” he said. Asake also called for accountability, adding that those involved should not avoid responsibility for the incident.

Accountability and grief after the tragedy

Asake said that the incident went against everything music represents to him. He explained that music has always been about spreading positive feelings and connection.

“Music has always been my way of sharing love and joy,” he said, noting that the tragedy had deeply affected him on a personal level.

He added, “It breaks my heart that anyone had to experience such loss.”

The singer said the incident had turned what should have been a moment of celebration into one of mourning. He said he was thinking about everyone affected by the tragedy and acknowledged the pain being felt by many.

“My thoughts are with everyone grieving, and I pray that Karen rests in peace,” he said.

He closed his statement with a message to the country, saying, “God Bless Kenya.”
