Akuku Danger calls out content creators overhyping iShowSpeed’s Kenya visit

Comedian Mannerson Ochieng, popularly known as Akuku Danger, has criticised Kenyan content creators for what he describes as excessive excitement and self-undermining behaviour ahead of American streamer iShowSpeed’s upcoming visit to Kenya.

Speaking on the growing online buzz surrounding the visit on his Instagram on Sunday, January 4, 2026, Akuku questioned why some creators are acting as though the streamer’s arrival is the defining moment for Kenya’s global recognition.

“IShowSpeed is good, he is big, but we are also big,” Akuku said. “Wacheni kujibeba vibaya bana. Some of you are behaving like he is the messiah coming to introduce Kenya to the world.”

His remarks come amid debates among Kenyan creators about where iShowSpeed should visit, who he should collaborate with, and how the country should be portrayed during his livestreams.

While some creators have pushed for showcasing only Nairobi’s modern infrastructure, others argue that the streamer should experience both the polished and less developed parts of the city.

Akuku expressed concern that the public scrambling and constant online commentary make Kenyan creators appear desperate for validation rather than confident in their own global relevance.

“Kenya has always been known internationally. We don’t need to act like this is the first time the world is watching us,” he added.

Growing debate over his visit

The comedian’s comments add to a widening conversation within Kenya’s creative industry, with figures such as Terence Creative previously urging creators to think long-term and focus on sustainable growth rather than one-off viral moments linked to iShowSpeed’s visit.

On the other hand, content strategist Director Trevor took a more practical approach, outlining a list of culturally immersive, viral-ready experiences he believes align with iShowSpeed’s energetic brand.

His suggestions included racing sprinter Ferdinand Omanyala, participating in Maasai traditional dances, engaging with youth in Mathare, experiencing nganya matatu culture, sampling Kenyan street food, and touring Nairobi’s key landmarks.

However, the most polarising voice has been prankster Vindee, who claimed that iShowSpeed’s management contacted him to help plan parts of the Kenya tour.

iShowSpeed is expected to visit Kenya in January as part of his 28-day, multi-country African tour. The tour will see the American streamer travel to over 20 countries across the continent.

He has already visited Angola, South Africa, and Mozambique, where he was welcomed by massive crowds and high-energy street interactions.

The tour has generated global attention, with Speed’s livestreams drawing hundreds of thousands of concurrent viewers. During his African tour, iShowSpeed also surpassed a major milestone, hitting 47 million YouTube subscribers.
