Sotik: Police probe murder after body of M-Pesa agent found in dam
Police in Sotik, Bomet county, have launched an investigation following the grim recovery of a man’s body who has been missing since Monday, November 17, 2025, from a dam near the Gethsemane Waterpoint in Chebole market.
According to the police report dated Sunday, November 23, 2025, the deceased, identified as Tito Kiprotich Cheruiyot, was found dead and disposed of in a dam within the market.
The deceased is said to have been working in Chebole town as an M-Pesa attendant before being brutally murdered.
His discovery was made after two residents, Felix Kiprono Cheruiyot and Geoffrey Koech, took a person of interest to the Mutarakwa Police Post (OB No. 06/23/11/2025), claiming that he was involved in the disappearance and murder of the Sais businessman.

“That they had arrested one Gilbert Kipng’eno Langat, a k/m/a whom they had brought to the post alleging that together with another still at large, was involved in the disappearance and murder of Tito Kiprotich Cheruiyot, a k/m/a who was a suspect in the stealing by servant report.” Part of the police report reads.
The report further said that officers from the Sotik command quickly acted on the information, arresting two more individuals, with one person of interest still at large, and were subsequently led to the dam, where the body is said to have been disposed of.
“The suspect further led the officers to a dam in the Gethsemane waterpoint area within Chebole, where they had allegedly disposed of the body.” Police said in the report.

According to Bomet Disaster Management Officer Stanley Mutai, who led the recovery of the body at the dam, the body of the deceased had physical injuries on his body.
“We have recovered the body of the middle-aged man who was working here in Chebole at an Mpesa, and he was having some physical injuries on the body,” Mutai said.
He added, “The body has been moved to Kapkatet Morgue, awaiting autopsy and funeral arrangements.”
