Police recover 120 stolen Del Monte pineapples in Ithanga Kakuzi crackdown

Police in Ithanga Kakuzi Sub-County have stepped up operations to curb rising cases of agricultural produce theft, following the recovery of 120 stolen pineapples from the expansive Del Monte plantations.

According to a statement issued via social media by the National Police Service (NPS) on Thursday, November 27, 2025, the incident occurred during a routine patrol on Field 11, where officers from Ngati Police Station intercepted a person of interest ferrying the stolen produce on a red Haojin motorcycle.

“Police in Ithanga Kakuzi Sub-County have intensified efforts to curb the theft of agricultural produce, following a successful operation on Field 11 of the Del Monte farm. During a patrol, officers from Ngati Police Station intercepted a suspect who was transporting stolen pineapples. The officers recovered 120 fresh pineapples, which had been loaded onto a red Haojin motorcycle,” NPS stated.

The arrest

According to police reports, the officers acted swiftly after noticing suspicious movement within the farm, leading to the successful recovery of the pineapples.

The person of interest was arrested at the scene and escorted to the station, where he is currently being held pending processing and arraignment. The recovered produce has been secured as evidence.

“The suspect was arrested at the scene and taken to the police station, where he is being held in custody awaiting processing and arraignment. The produce was also secured as evidence at the facility,” the statement read.

Police are calling on residents to assist by reporting suspicious activities through the nearest police station or via toll-free emergency lines 999, 911, and 112.

“Members of the public are encouraged to report any suspicious activity to their nearest police station or via the toll-free hotlines 999, 911, or 112.
