Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives have arrested three suspects linked to the gruesome attack and murder of Kilifi County Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) official Aisha Abubakar.

Aisha was murdered on January 5, 2025, after suspected robbers raided her home in Kilifi and attacked her while in the company of her son, who sustained injuries during the incident.

DCI, in a statement shared via social media on Monday, January 13, 2025, said that several exhibits were recovered from the persons of interest following their arrest.

The DCI says the three who have been identified as Isa Omari, Brian Shikuku Mudari, and Bryan Templer Oyare were flushed from their hideouts in separate but coordinated operations within the coastal region.

“Three suspects linked to the gruesome attack and murder of Kilifi County IEBC official Ms Aisha Abubakar on January 5, 2025, have been arrested by @DCI_Kenya detectives, and from them several exhibits were recovered.

“Isa Omari, Brian Shikuku Mudari, and Bryan Templer Oyare were flushed from their hideouts in separate but coordinated operations within the coastal region, following seven days of rigorous manhunt for perpetrators of the 3 am daring robbery,” the DCI statement read in part.

Aisha’s attack

The intruders forced their way into Aisha’s house by cutting the grills of the kitchen window and attacked her son using crude weapons before stabbing the homeowner owner severally.

According to the DCI, the attackers made away with a number of valuables, including two Samsung phones, an iPad, a 65″ TV set, a sound system, and ATM cards whose PINs they had demanded.

“On the fateful morning, the deceased and her son were woken from their dead sleep by an unestablished number of home invaders, who forced entry into the abode by cutting the grills of the kitchen window. Armed with crude weapons, the assailants knocked the son out before stabbing the homeowner owner severally amidst desperate pleas not to take her dear life. As she bled her life out, the cold-blooded attackers made away with a number of valuables, including two Samsung phones, an iPad, a 65″ TV set, a sound system, and ATM cards whose PINs they had demanded,” the anti-crime agency stated.

Phone recovered
