Embu: Man arrested and items recovered after breaking into school canteen

Police in Embu East have arrested a person and recovered stolen property following a swift operation mounted in response to a break-in at the Fidenza School of Nursing in Kyeni.
According to a statement from the National Police Service (NPS), the incident occurred on the night of July 14, 2025, when unknown intruders broke into the school compound, vandalised the students’ canteen, and made away with assorted shop items, including an electric water pump.
“Upon receiving the report, Police officers from Runyenjes Police Station immediately attended the scene and commenced investigations. With assistance from the community and through intelligence-led operations, the officers successfully traced and arrested one suspect,” read the NPS statement posted on X on Tuesday, July 15, 2025.
The person later led the officers to his residence, where all the stolen items were recovered. He was taken into custody at Runyenjes Police Station for further action.

The NPS commended the officers for their quick response and recognised the critical role of community cooperation.
“The National Police Service commends the officers for their swift response and appreciates the community for their cooperation. The Service remains committed to providing professional, responsive, and efficient policing services to the public,” it said.

Back-to-back police recoveries
This successful operation comes amid a series of similar recoveries across the country. On July 10, 2025, Nairobi police arrested a person of interest and recovered a trove of suspected stolen electronics in Mathare. Officers from Utalii Police Station, acting on a tip-off, raided the home of a man who ran an electronics repair shop and seized 72 mobile phones, laptops, external hard drives, and other devices.
“Thirty-two of the recovered mobile phones have already been positively identified by complainants from M-KOPA Company,” said the NPS. “The remaining items have been secured and placed in police custody as exhibits, pending further identification by their rightful owners.”
In Kisumu, police on July 13, 2025, recovered property believed to have been stolen from Kombe Kogulo Comprehensive School back in May. Recovered items included school utensils, laboratory equipment, desktop computers, and a water pump, among others.
These back-to-back operations highlight the increasing effectiveness of community policing. “We encourage the public to continue reporting suspicious activities,” the NPS stated, adding that public cooperation remains essential in fighting crime.
Residents are urged to visit police stations to help identify recovered items and support ongoing investigations.
