Three persons of interest are currently being detained after their vehicles were intercepted and 10 bales of Cannabis Sativa were seized.

In a statement on Saturday, November 9, 2024, the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) revealed that the two vehicles were intercepted along the Nakuru-Nairobi highway in the Karai area of Naivasha.

According to DCI’s statement, the detectives swung to action after receiving a tip-off on the said trafficking of bhang. During their well-orchestrated operation, the sleuths ambushed the two cars, a Noah and a Toyota Fielder.

The 10 bales of bhang were found concealed in gunny bags.

In the statement, DCI identified two of the suspects who they stated were law enforcement officers.

War on drugs

DCI officers have been alert in their war against outlawed drugs. In October 2024, a 44-year-old man was arrested and Ksh3.5 million worth of bhang was seized in Athi River, Machakos County.

The man was arrested after police officers stormed the store he was manning at Kwa Mang’eli village within Athi River Township.

Police said the suspect was arrested following an operation prompted by a tip from members of the public.

The incident happened barely two days after police intercepted a motor vehicle and seized Ksh6.9 million worth of bhang within Machakos Township.

In September 2024, detectives also arrested another person of interest after seizing a consignment of bhang at Green Estate in Mombasa’s Kiembeni area with an estimated street value of Ksh25 million.

DCI noted that police officers from Kadzandani Police Station, acting on a tip-off from members of the public, raided the estate and uncovered 16 sacks of cannabis weighing 864.9kgs.
