3 arrested as police seize weapons and drugs in gang raid in Lunga Lunga

Three individuals believed to be members of a notorious criminal gang were arrested in Lunga Lunga Township, Kwale County.

In a statement shared by the National Police Service (NPS on Saturday, August 2, 2025, the arrests were made after members of the public tipped off authorities about suspicious activity in the Ngeneni area. Acting swiftly on the information, officers from Lunga Lunga Police Station conducted a raid on a single-room house where the suspects were believed to be hiding.

Inside the hideout, NPS said the officers found the three individuals armed with machetes and in possession of cannabis sativa, which they were reportedly smoking at the time of the arrest. One of the individuals is said to be a key figure in the gang and is wanted for murder, with an active arrest warrant already issued against him.

Police said the individuals have been linked to a series of violent crimes in the area. They are currently in custody as investigations continue to determine the full extent of their criminal activities.

“On 1 August 2025, police officers from Lunga Lunga Police Station acted on a credible tip-off regarding the presence of a notorious criminal gang in the Ngeneni area, within Lunga Lunga Township. One of the individuals, believed to be a key gang member, is wanted on an active arrest warrant for murder and had reportedly been spotted in the company of his accomplices in the area. The officers swiftly moved to the location and raided a single-room house, where the theree were found armed with machetes. They were also smoking cannabis sativa at the time of the raid,” the statement read in part.

Adding;

“A thorough search of the premises led to the recovery of approximately 257 grams of cannabis sativa, five machetes, and a black Tanzanian-registered motorcycle (registration number MC890), suspected to have been used in various criminal activities.”

The three were arrested on the spot and taken into police custody. They are expected to be arraigned in court soon.

Authorities have lauded the public for providing the intelligence that led to the arrests and urged continued cooperation in the fight against crime.

“The three were arrested during the operation and placed in police custody, pending arraignment. The National Police Service commends members of the public for providing information that led to the successful operation,” the statement concluded.
