Kenyan socialite and businesswoman Vera Sidika has issued a stern warning to her fans after her WhatsApp account was hacked by a scammer.

Speaking through her Instagram stories on Monday, August 25, 2025, Vera alerted her followers that she had been unexpectedly logged out of her account on Sunday night, only to discover later that it had been compromised.

In her alert, Vera explained that the hacker had gained access by acquiring a new SIM card linked to her number.

“Got logged out from my previous WhatsApp last night,” she disclosed. According to her, the fraudster has been messaging her contacts and soliciting money while posing as her.

She further cautioned her fans, stressing the seriousness of the situation. “New SIM card holder is asking people for money,” she warned, noting that anyone who receives suspicious messages should immediately disregard them.

The reality star urged her wide following to remain cautious in order to avoid falling victim to the scam. “Do NOT send money to anyone!!” she emphasised, making it clear that she had no such requests and that the appeals for cash were fraudulent.

Vera also advised her loyal supporters to reach out privately if they needed to verify her contact. “Kindly DM to get my new number,” she added, indicating she has already shifted to a safer line for communication.

Previous hacking incident

This is not the first time Vera has fallen victim to cyber-attacks. In past years, the socialite-turned-entrepreneur announced that her Instagram account had been hacked by an unknown person.

At the time, Vera disclosed that her old account had been taken over and renamed under different identities, making it impossible for her to regain control.

Her warning comes at a time when social media scams are increasingly becoming common in Kenya, with public figures often being prime targets.

The incident highlights the vulnerability of digital platforms to impersonation and fraud, which can cause both financial and reputational damage.

Vera, who has built her brand in entertainment and business, reiterated her commitment to protecting her fans and encouraged them to spread the word to help curb the fraudster’s activities.
