Tonny Young to become first Mugithi singer to perform in Saudi Arabia

Mugithi artiste Anthony Kamau Ngata popularly known by his stage name Tonny Young is gearing up to deliver his first-ever performance in Saudi Arabia.

The show is scheduled for May 5, 2023, in Riyadh.

Tonny Young, who is among Kikuyu singers to pioneer Mugithi shows in Gulf countries like Qatar and Dubai, is one of the most popular singing sensations well-known all across the country.

The singer holds a handful of multiple hits including ‘Nongeganithia‘ and ‘Mweri Umwe’ among others with the former playing a huge role in accentuating his career by establishing him as a household name and also gaining him a few accolades.

Now, the singing sensation is all set to achieve another milestone in his career by becoming the first ever Mugithi artist to perform in the Arabic nation.

While sharing the news, he wrote, “Hello my people! This morning I’m so excited to share with you this great News. To all my fans from Saudi Arabia tutakuwa na show moja kali pale Riyadh on 5/5/2023. Get your tickets ready.Ni Ngai gwika wega.”

Mugithi is a form of music originated by the Kikuyu people of Kenya but enjoyed by other ethnic groups within Kenya.

Tonny Young’s previous perfomances

Young has previously performed alongside other Mugithi heavyweights such as Samidoh, Joyce Wamama, Steve Rogers the Country Boy, and Waithaka wa Jane.

In January this year, Young was among three Mugithi artistes sued by popular Benga artiste John Gikaria alias JB Maina for allegedly sampling his songs and posting them on their YouTube channel.
