TikToker Shikie Kariuki has issued a public apology to digital content creator and actress Carrol Muthoni Sonnie after facing backlash over comments she made about Sonnie’s recent weight gain.

In a video shared on her official TikTok account on Sunday, November 30, 2025, Shikie clarified that she did not intend to body shame or insult Sonnie.

She explained that her earlier remarks had been misunderstood and insisted that she had no intention of attacking Sonnie’s appearance.

Shikie said she regrets that the video made Sonnie uncomfortable and acknowledged that her words may have come across as insensitive, especially on a topic as personal as body changes.

Ile video nilifanya ya Carrol Sonnie siku mtusi, and I never body shamed her. I apologise to Carrol Sonnie if she felt uneasy about it, I am very sorry. I apologise,” Shikie apologised.

Shikie’s weight gain comment

Shikie Kariuki took to her TikTok targeting Sonnie’s appearance, where she openly questioned her recent weight gain.

In the clip, Shikie went on to make remarks about Sonnie’s stomach and overall shape, insisting she needed to be more cautious about adding any extra weight. Her message implied that further weight gain would make her appearance less balanced.

Sonnie’s response

Taking to Instagram on Saturday, November 29, 2025, Sonnie delivered a composed but pointed response, making it clear she was not shaken by the criticism but disappointed that a fellow woman would focus on her body instead of minding her own business.

She noted that Shikie frequently comments on the personal lives of others, yet becomes defensive whenever the attention shifts back to her.

“She always has opinions about other people’s lives, but when it comes to her, that’s where she draws the line,” Sonnie wrote.

Sonnie added that she had taken time to go through several videos posted by the TikToker and felt there was nothing productive to respond to, choosing instead to advise her to relax and enjoy life rather than nitpicking other women’s bodies.

“I have gone through her TikTok videos, and I reserve my comment. Bbg, relax and enjoy life. It’s never that serious,” she noted.
