‘Watoto wapate pesa’: TikToker Shikie Kariuki urges primary schools to adopt forex trading classes

TikToker Shikie Kariuki has urged primary schools to consider introducing forex trading lessons for pupils, arguing that children should be exposed to financial skills that could help them earn money in the future.

Speaking in a video shared on her page on Thursday, July 30, 2026, Kariuki said she would be willing to pay higher school fees if schools introduced practical forex trading lessons for children.

The TikToker made the remarks while discussing how children were spending their school holidays, saying she would prefer her children to use their free time to learn practical financial skills instead of spending long hours watching cartoons.

Kariuki said she would not mind if schools increased their fees to as much as Ksh1 million, provided that forex trading was included in the curriculum.

“Even if they increase the school fees to Ksh1 million, I am okay with that, but the key thing is that they teach my kids forex trading,” she said.

The TikToker went on to call for forex trading to be introduced to younger pupils, suggesting that children as young as Grade Three could be taught the basics of the financial markets.

She argued that schools should consider prioritising forex trading alongside or instead of some subjects that are currently taught to pupils.

“And I am talking about real forex trading. Schools should now be teaching Grade Three pupils forex trading and such rather than computers and French,” Kariuki said.

Kariuki said she would be happy if schools adopted such programmes, adding that she believed introducing children to forex trading could provide them with useful financial knowledge from an early age.

“I would be so happy, and you would help me a big deal by doing that,” she added.

Her remarks also extended to the school holidays, with Kariuki questioning how children were spending their free time while away from school.

She said she had noticed that some children were spending much of their holiday sleeping or watching cartoons instead of engaging in activities that could equip them with practical skills.

Kariuki said she would therefore welcome opportunities where children could receive forex trading training during school holidays.

“Or tell me where my kids can go and learn forex trading when the schools are on holiday,” she said.

The TikToker then issued a direct appeal to people who have knowledge of forex trading, inviting them to offer training to her children, saying she would be willing to pay for the lessons.

“Now I see the kids here; they are just sleeping this holiday. Now they like to watch cartoons. If you know how to train forex, come and train my kids, and I will pay,” she said.
