‘Mungu akamchukua’: TikToker Shikie Kariuki recalls giving birth to daughter who died a day later

TikToker Shikie Kariuki has opened up about the heartbreaking loss of her firstborn daughter, revealing that the baby died just a day after she gave birth.
In an emotional video shared on TikTok on Friday, July 25, 2026, Shikie recalled the painful events surrounding the birth of her daughter, saying she had gone to hospital on July 23 and was booked for delivery before being taken to the theatre.
She said the situation quickly turned into an emergency, forcing doctors to take her to the emergency theatre, where she eventually gave birth to a baby who was not crying.
Shikie said she later left the theatre with her newborn daughter but was immediately separated from her as the baby was rushed to the MDU nursery for specialised care.
“I remember I went to the hospital and was booked for delivery and I was taken to the theatre. I was taken to the emergency theatre and I walked out later with a baby who was not crying,” she recalled.
The TikToker said the baby was quickly transferred to the MDU nursery while she was taken to a ward, leaving her unable to see her daughter for the rest of the day.
She said the newborn was placed under a machine as medical staff tried to save her life, while she remained in the ward without knowing when she would next see her child.
“After that setback, the baby and I were rushed out to the MDU room fast. So the baby was taken to the MDU nursery and I was taken to the ward and the baby was put under a machine,” Shikie said.
Shikie said she spent the following day without seeing her daughter, a separation that made the already difficult experience even more painful.
“I stayed the next whole day without seeing my daughter,” she added.
The TikToker said her daughter eventually died the following day, explaining that the baby’s lungs had not fully developed.
According to Shikie, the baby had been placed under medical care immediately after birth but did not survive.
She said the loss meant she never got the opportunity to hold her daughter, breastfeed her or even spend time with her as a mother.
“So the baby died the following day. I never saw the baby or held it. And I never got a chance to breastfeed,” she said.
Shikie also recalled trying to express breast milk after giving birth but said she was unable to do so at the time.
She said that, in a painful turn of events, she was able to produce breast milk only after her daughter had already died.
“I even tried to press milk from my breasts but it was not possible, but after the baby died I weirdly was able to,” she recalled.
Shikie also spoke about the difficult circumstances surrounding her pregnancy, saying she was only 16 at the time.
She claimed that the baby’s father accused her of being unfaithful during the pregnancy, something she said affected her emotionally during an already difficult period.
Shikie maintained that she had not cheated on the child’s father, saying she was still very young and did not understand many things at the time.
“One of the reasons my daughter died was because of her father. The father accused me of cheating and so the baby was affected by that. But I had not cheated because I was just 16 and did not know a lot,” she said.
Shikie further described the pregnancy as an extremely difficult period in her life, saying she went through intense emotional struggles while carrying her first child.
She said the experience became so overwhelming that she reached a point where she contemplated taking her own life.
“I passed through hell with that pregnancy. I even tried to take away my life,” she said.
